Aggressive people?

I’m fed up of impolite and pushy aggressive people.

One neighbour yesterday’s repeatedly shouting “pack it in” about 6 times. I mean who says that. That’s all she was saying. No one else could heard, she could have been speaking to her Child or dog!

another neighbour decided to mow the lawn and let his dog out. The meant he spent the next 20 minutes telling the dog to fuck off. I mean what is the point of that!? He was getting so aggressive with the poor thing

Then, in the pharmacy GP man about 70 moaning and grumbling the receptionist aggressively about the weather! I was feeling shit already and now I just find this constant micro aggressions a bit mood draining.

I also find that people are so impatient and unable to wait or deal with small waits or inconveniences without getting aggressive. I’m happy to wait if you tell me how long and be accurate with it eg say 10 minutes and be 10 minutes

I’m not sure you know what aggressive means… 😵‍💫 Only the fuck off qualifies here.

redboxerclub · 12/08/2026 14:15

they were being aggressive and unpleasant. Confrontational. I would never tell anyone to pack it in or moan grumpily them and then start ranting. What happens to speaking nicely to people?

I do rant but usually at home and to people who care about me, not to acquaintances and be overheard by others.

I will describe myself as a highly sensitive person. So it probably is me being over sensitive. But I have had rough week and my last nerve was Shredded between neighbours and the gp surgery!

I work in the NHS and my office is right next door to reception. The attitudes some people have is mind blowing. We’ve had threats, screaming, shouting, swearing etc etc. the only thing I’ve not seen yet is physical violence and I’m sure that’s only because the receptionist is behind a screen. It’s not acceptable and it’s much worse than it used to be. Entitlement and impatience are rampant.

They aren't my type of people either.

I'm very tranquil.

I do think the current humidity is making people behave differently.

People always seem to 'want' nowadays; but as they say "Time is the richest commodity".

Also just wanted to add I try to go out of my way to be extra polite to teachers, NHS staff, retail staff and anyone working frontline with the public because I’ve seen the effect that these conflicts have on people. One receptionist was physically shaking after dealing with one patient. It’s awful.

I do wonder whether the hot weather is exacerbating everything, @redboxerclub - both the attitude of the stroppy and aggressive people you are sadly encountering, and also impacting your ability to shrug it off.

I don’t think you are being unreasonable to find these things unpleasant and grating - I would too.

ginasevern · 12/08/2026 14:37

Why should the hot weather make people aggressive though? In warmer climes (like Italy or Spain or example) it generally makes people more laid back and less inclined to rush.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/08/2026 14:39

I think it’s because we aren’t used to it, in the same way as people from hotter countries, @ginasevern. Plus our homes and lives aren’t structured to cope with the heat, so people sleep badly, which makes them more irritable, and then the heat during the day also makes that irritability worse. It’s just my theory, though.

I guess so. Although air conditioning, private swimming pools and the like (for the average person) isn't particularly common there either.

redboxerclub · 12/08/2026 19:53

@Dr13Hadley yes is it mostly by the under informed too?
I’m a teacher. I see impatienrs and entitlement every single day it’s like a reflex now.

I was also admitted to ED for 24 hours after day surgery (it was really nice like a ward!). The staff were so lovely and did not stop and there were some really patient people and some really demanding people.

It just make me sad about 70% of people seem to be like this now.

MIL and I the the moaner at thefarsenncenrew are different. They make complaining part of their personality and it is so bloody emotionally draining.

I’m right off people at the moment for all these reasons

concertinacornflake · 12/08/2026 20:00

I'm not excusing it, but the underlying cause is that every service is more stretched and people have less disposable income.

It takes quite a lot of effort not to moan about how shit so many things are.

Take schools - I know the teachers are working harder then they were 15 years ago, yet the provision offered is worse. So more people moan. When standards decline, people do feel it.

what?

PassOnThat · 12/08/2026 22:22

We are more isolated and stressed and our nervous systems are more overloaded than in the past. Daily life is more difficult to navigate for many people. There are many more options and choices and this can lead to overwhelm. Society is more individualistic, which can lead to a feeling that many people are trying to 'get one over' on others. What we view as 'success' is defined in material terms that make it very hard for the ordinary person to achieve it when most of us are struggling to get by in life. I do think we've lost sight somewhat of what a 'normal' life looks like for most people, and therefore we feel it's our own fault that there are others who are achieving more than us.

None of these factors bring out the best in people. But some people have better emotional regulation than others, due to a variety of factors including personality but also things like secure childhood attachments, emotionally stable parents and access to sufficient resources to alleviate chronic stress.
