How old were you when you started to notice face wrinkles?

I'm 42 this month and I feel like in the last two years my under eye lines have made me go from looking like a 33 year old to a 65 year old. They're just awful. So many lines. Is there a type of botox for under the eyes? Grateful to be ageing but let's be honest it's depressing too. I have zero forehead lines but oh man the eyes!

I know what you mean!

It creeps up on you and sometime in your early 40s, they seem to appear overnight.

I've never had Botox or similar. Tried lots of creams, serums etc but can't say I've ever noticed much of a difference.

I suppose in a way it's good that your eyesight starts to deteriorate at that age so you can't see them!

Did you know that scientists have found that people age in two bursts, at 44 and 65? That seems to have been true for me at least:
Scientists find humans age dramatically in two bursts

Scientists find humans age dramatically in two bursts – at 44, then 60

US findings suggesting ageing is not a slow and steady process could explain spikes in health issues at certain ages

in my early 50s and still not especially wrinkly. One of the upsides of being on the tubby side. The jawline is going though, and I can see I’ll turn into my mum as time goes by, which is okay I think. Reckon it’s best to make peace with it. All the injections in the world won’t beat time and people I know who’ve done the aesthetics thing soon start to look less like themselves. Each to their own though. Just saying, wrinkles needn’t be unattractive.

Charlottian · 12/08/2026 06:49

I’m guessing, but I think I was probably about 35.
I couldn’t care less about my wrinkles.
What’s wrong with getting older and looking older? It’s a fact of life, and as you say, something to be grateful for.
I think our attitude towards aging as a society is so wrong—women particularly are made to feel devalued as they get older. This constant pressure to look younger is a capitalist scam.
I choose to accept my body as it is and be grateful that I am still alive to enjoy all life has to offer and yes, to get wrinkles. I find it quite freeing. If others want to judge me for having a wrinkled face, then that’s their problem.

Started noticing probably late 30s, but I'm 44 now and they are suddenly much more noticeable. I definitely feel like I've aged a lot in the past year (not helped by some health problems).

One day they bother me, another day I feel I've earned them and they give my face character. I'm not too worried about them really - I know I'm only going to look older, and I prefer than to the alternative.

ViciousCurrentBun · 12/08/2026 07:47

I was menopausal at 50, I’m mixed race and as they say Asian don’t raisin and I appear to have inherited my Dads skin tone and type. I had a small forehead line appear. I’m 60 now and have a couple and I do now have a couple each side of my eyes but not a lot. My Dad however only had this level when he died at 84. My mate who I’m having dinner with later is 42 and HK Chinese and has not one single line yet. It’s genetics but if you notice Asian women from China, Japan and almost all nations avoid the sun.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 12/08/2026 07:50

I’m not too bad at 58 but as a pp said … I’m overweight so that’s one of the bonuses 🤣

Girlintheframe · 12/08/2026 07:55

Probably early 40s. I’m a decade older now and not very wrinkly but as time moves on I definitely see my face ageing quicker.

Thecomfortador · 12/08/2026 07:56

Similar, looking at photos of me on my 39th birthday I could be anything from mid 20s upwards. Now nearly 45 and it's very different. I'm just glad I don't have to look at me all day. Really ramping up the moisturiser and spf in a hope I can slow it all down. Not likely to ever get botox but fully understand why people do.

custardbonbon · 12/08/2026 08:00

I’m 53 and barely got a wrinkle. Barely do any face care routing either.

it’s the grey hair that ages me!

DustyMaiden · 12/08/2026 08:31

I’d love a wrinkle. 64 no wrinkles just sag .

Echobelly · 12/08/2026 08:37

As per Guardian article, circa 44 I noticed the deeper lines from my nose and the corners of my lips and that's what's stopped stopped looking much younger than my actual age like I always used to, rather than 'wrinkles' per se. But c'est la vie, I have no need for looking much younger than I am anyhow.

YassQweeennn · 12/08/2026 14:27

I was so smug in my 30s as I thought I had great skin and would age beautifully if that kept up. Early 40s and boy I woke up one morning and just looked at felt ancient. Unlike the OP, my eyes and crows feet are fine but my forehead lines are so deep and numerous. Also my jowls are sagging and my grey hairs are getting to the point where they need touching up more often than not.

I'm loathe to undergo Botox and fillers as I'm really worried about repercussions... it's annoying as it's not a level playing field anymore, literally all my contemporaries have some sort of tweakment done that of course I look rubbish by comparison. I try to stay reasonably slim and dress well and that's my way of trying to stave off the years.

im sure you're beautiful OP, and remember ageing is a luxury xx

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/08/2026 14:28

Im 46 and have very fine lines around eyes but nothing noticeable. No nose to mouth lines yet.

Same here. I’ve gotten jowly, under chin fat pad. Forehead / eyes / mouth aren’t bad. I’m 50, my body is going south quickly though! I know older women with plenty of wrinkles, but maybe great character adds to them too.

BotoxOrPuffins · 12/08/2026 14:32

I'm 44, not particularly wrinkly but noticing the sag big time. Hooded eyes and some noticeable lines from my nose to corner of my mouth so that I look every so slightly pissed off or upset most of the time. I counter it by smiling as much as possible which isn't practical but I'm too scared of filler in my face in case it has long term implications.

youalright · 12/08/2026 14:51

Im nearly 40 and I think my fatness is keeping them away. I imagine when I lose weight I will age about 10 years

user85642879067 · 12/08/2026 14:59

I thought I had wrinkles in my 30’s. I really didn’t! The first proper one, nose down to lip appeared at 48, literally overnight. Jowls and saggy jaw line were more gradual from mid 40’s. Can’t say it worries me particularly. DH older and still remarkably, annoyingly, fresh faced despite never using moisturiser or sun cream…it’s not fair!

FeliciaFancybottom · 12/08/2026 15:13

I'm not wrinkly at 57; I've always had quite greasy skin, and I think that's helped. I have had a skincare routine since my teens, so that's helped too.

DoYouThinkAbout · 12/08/2026 15:32

Early 40s. Premature menopause absolutely battered me in my early 40s.

Im very fair and have red hair. Spent years looking much younger and suddenly aged years in months.

Viperregency · 12/08/2026 15:41

I’m 57 and have crows feet when I smile and forehead lines when I raise my eyebrows, clearly like most people if my face is straight and emotionless it looks smooth and wrinkle free, it’s the movement that shows the lines and wrinkles.

id recommend being fully hydrated, 3 litres of water a day, a good skin care regime, minimal alchohol, a healthy weight, and great make up.

i was on another thread, i use Victoria Beckham the drops, with a dab of her concealer, it just perfects my skin and blurs.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/08/2026 16:02

Late 20s. I'm baffled by people saying their 40s.
Yes, they became more visible from my 40s, but I had lines around my eyes in late twenties and the beginning of lines just in the centre of my forehead.

igelkott2026 · 12/08/2026 16:14

I'm 54 and have a fat face so I think that helps avoid wrinkles. It's the dark shadows under my eyes which I've always had, but have now morphed into eye bags. I dread to think how I'll look at 64!

With sunglasses on I look ok.

And I am pretty lean (I just have a fat face) so I look good from the back. I think someone said you have to choose between your face and your bottom?

igelkott2026 · 12/08/2026 16:14

I first noticed a couple of fine lines when I was 31 a few months after giving birth. I suspect the two were not unconnected.

Debbi62 · 12/08/2026 16:15

I noticed my in my mid fifties, since turning 60 even more so, i'm 62 now . I do have botox on my forehead and the lines around my eyes, but only a small amount , so it still looks natural . I wish i had starting using anti wrinkle creams earlier

I’m similar. Hardly any wrinkles, but sagging around jawline. I don’t want surgery or Botox or anything else though.

My boyfriend and other people say I look good for my age (I dress well), so must be doing something right.

I also think combination skin and spots in teens means I’m less likely to get wrinkles.
