Travel insurance question; bats, rabies. Fun stuff

So I posted a thread earlier in aibu about being worried about a weird "bite" mark, and pitential rabies (uk version found only in bats) I went to urgent care. Do I need to declare this to my travel insurance ( I fly in 3 days) even though no diagnosis/ treatment was made?

I'm also now worrying about what happens if I do come into contact with an animal in the US like a bat and need rabies treatment as it will look suspiscious? Would they just not cover it? ;_;

I would ring and tell them

Have you been vaccinated against rabies if travelling to a country where its prevalent?

momager22 · 11/08/2026 21:17

It depends how the questions on the screening are worded. If you’re not honest it can invalidate your insurance though. What did a&e say caused it?

They have no idea.
I took the insurance out months ago, I may just ring and ask

No, it isn't deemed necessary for the US

You should declare all medical visits etc since you took the policy out including whether you are waiting for results for a blood test or other test or on a waiting list for a procedure. If you declare everything it’s much harder for an insurer to exclude a claim based on non disclosure.

You would declare your visit to A &E - get a copy of the notes and quote them. If you tell insurers they can’t say they weren't aware if something later develops.
