To sell my 18 carat gold bracelet, advice please

Years ago l got some long service money from work and bought myself this bracelet from Goldsmiths. It’s a cuff type bracelet and was always a snug fit but since then I’ve developed Arthritis and my wrists are thicker, haven’t worn it for 15 plus years.

It’s in perfect condition, Goldsmiths don’t buy second hand jewellery, eBay won’t let me list anything over £3k but I’d be very dubious about using eBay. A friend enquired at a jewellers she uses and they weren’t interested.

gucci no longer makes the bracelet and the prices are high.

Does anyone know anywhere that buys secondhand designer jewellery, that are trustworthy please.

I would look for a jeweller/dealer who buys gold. They usually have a sign in their window if they do.

Ilovemyshed · 11/08/2026 07:39

Take it to a reputable local jeweller and ask them for a price. Gold is really high at the moment.

I would suggest you weigh it (in ounces) first so you know roughly its value.

Try Love Luxury. You will at the very least get an honest, expert appraisal

Pp is right. Weigh it and look at gold prices. That's the scrap value.

It should be worth more as a designer bracelet but you need a buyer willing to pay for it.

If you look on ebay what have they actually sold for? (Select sold in the drop down). What does it weigh? Whats the difference between the average sold price and the scrap value?

Eta. It might be completed not sold on the ebay drop down. Im having a brain fart.

ClaredeBear · 11/08/2026 07:46

Gold is sold for scrap so weigh it (grams) and look online for your best price. That will give you a baseline. It’s a lovely bracelet so I can understand why you would want to sell it is, so alternatively, you might want to try one of the many reputable secondhand jewellery online retailers.

FishPie2 · 11/08/2026 07:47

Weigh in Grams. Mine wasn't designer but 22ct wedding rings and I took it them to 3 local jewellers and then went on line. It was classed as scrap gold and I got a better price online from a jewellers in Birmingham.

Iftheskywasbkue · 11/08/2026 07:50

Shop around various jewellers and retailers for quotes. I took some gold jewellery that I had to two local jewellers that are always recommended and one wasn’t interested and the other offered me a low price per gram because he said that “you don’t have much to sell.”

Feeling despondent I left and happened to walk past a shop that is similar to a Cash Converters (but not a national chain), so I got a quote from them, compared it to the prices of the London gold buyers that you can post your gold to, and found that they offered the best price by quite a lot. I sold my gold to them instead, and I had to provide photo ID and proof of address.

In other words, shop around for the best price.

It's a classic Gucci bracelet that they've just brought back in a similar design for its anniversary - it's worth much much more than the scrap value!

You could try an auction house OP?

LoSlo3toGo · 11/08/2026 07:52

If this is a Gucci piece it will have value as an item of jewellery vs being melted … look for a private sale to someone who wants it as jewellery

Somersetbaker · 11/08/2026 07:55

I would contact an auction house, it will need to go in a specialist sale rather than the usual bric-a-brac, bankrupt stock, bargain hunt type sales.

Justlurking8 · 11/08/2026 07:57

Try ‘Designer Exchange’, they buy lots of Gucci goods. If you go to a pawnbroker or buy gold type place, they’ll only pay you scrap price of gold.

Or get quotes at an auction house.

HereForFootie · 11/08/2026 07:59

Alternatively, you could take to an independent jeweller and have an extra link put in so you can enjoy it (may decrease it's value, but depends what your priorities are).

toomanycoffeecups · 11/08/2026 08:00

Yes. Do not sell it for scrap until you’ve had it valued as a Gucci piece. There can be substantial value in the Gucci name, particularly for a discontinued, recognisable design in 18ct gold.
For example, a pre-owned Gucci Bamboo 18ct yellow-gold bracelet weighing 21.9g sold for £2,410, whereas its gold value at today’s scrap-buying rate would only be about £1,426. Another Gucci yellow-gold bracelet sold second-hand for just over £3,050.
First, establish your absolute minimum
Today, 11 August 2026, Hatton Garden Metals is publicly quoting:
18ct gold: £65.12 per gram
That’s an actual advertised buying price, rather than the theoretical bullion value.
So weigh the bracelet on some kitchen scales and multiply the number of grams by £65.12 to get its scap price.

Then look at Fellows Auctioneers who seem to specialise in Gucci pieces.

Did you call Goldsmiths ? They have a certified pre owned line although the website doesn’t seem to advertise it. I f not I would give them a ring

DonaldWheresMaTweezers · 11/08/2026 08:00

Firstly, check the 'scrap' gold price - Google tells me today's price is £77 per gram for 18 carat gold (but do your own more thorough checks!). Weigh it and work out the baseline value - that is your starting point.

Then, have a look online and see what similar Gucci pieces are going for. In theory as this is a designer item it should be worth more than the scrap price.

If you have in mind a price you want to achieve for it, you can then try jewellers/gold buyers and see what they offer - obviously you have to account for the fact they would want to mark-up when they sell it. I would also try auctioneers - you'd then be paying a % in commission. It's a question of shopping round and finding what the best offer is.

For something like that I would be reluctant to sell it online - it will be a magnet for scammers. I'd rather achieve less for it than risk being scammed out of it altogether!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 11/08/2026 08:05

i am not connected with this place, except that I have bought jewellery from them and they do regular sales. Look up Olympia Auctions in Olympia, London.

Mrsredlipstick · 11/08/2026 08:10

Auction houses are best for this. Christmas sales are October & November so you need to consign it now.
Wooley and Wallis in Salisbury have a sale shortly.

smallgreenandsplitthreeways · 11/08/2026 08:16

Specialist auction house. Set a reserve price. Don’t bother with anything else.

Elieza · 11/08/2026 08:48

i love it! snaffle bit style jewellery is aways popular and in style. i just bought a silver / gold tone one from H&M.

defo a specialist auction house for this piece. worth more than scrap. set a reserve.

caringcarer · 11/08/2026 08:51

I'd get an additional link put in and wear it again.

ShamedBySiri · 11/08/2026 09:09

Bellman's Auction house has regular sales which may give you an idea of auction prices. I assume you have the original case etc for such a lovely bracelet, as that always adds value. Tiffany, Cartier and Gucci seem to do well, compared to random old pieces from Granny. I assume the unsold items failed to make their reserve. So you could set the reserve at the scrap gold price as per weight in grams and current gold price. Remember with auctions there is a fee to the auction house which I think is 15% plus VAT from the Bellman's sellers information, other auction houses may have different terms.

Thank you for the suggestions, given me a lot of ideas, it definitely doesn’t want to go for scrap, it’s virtually brand new condition. I’m definitely going to look at having a link put in. Many thanks x

I had an appointment at goldsmiths at Meadowhall a couple of weeks ago, l had a Cartier Ballon Bleu which had got too tight, l could have had an extra link in, but wanted a larger faced watch. I traded the watch in for a gold tank with a leather strap, they weren’t interested in the bracelet at all. I’d bought it from them, l have paperwork, receipt and box.

I intend to find out if I can get it extended, perhaps inserting two circular gold rings in it.

Is that because they no longer sell Gucci? I think auction is the way to go, a dealer would be looking to make 30%+, even on commission sell they would want 20%+.

WizdomE · 11/08/2026 17:22

Pawn broker. Go to a high end one, other will give you a fair price as they know oh w they can sell it every day of the week.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 11/08/2026 19:51

That is lovely. Truly lovely.

I would get a link put in and wear it every day 🤩
