Worried about centiles for 2.5 year old?

Stiycht9 · 11/08/2026 07:11

DD is 2.5. Just done her weight this morning 91st centile. Height and again I'm using a tape measure so may be off but it was 50th centile

Leaving me worried as I checked her red book at her health visitor appt when she was 2y3 months she was 3lb lighter!

Maybe she's due a growth spurt? She has always been shorter

Im going to try get her more active she doesnt have a pram but does ask me to pick her up a bit and my eldest who's 4.5 is a fantastic walker walked everywhere at this age but me and their dad are tall so our eldest is 75th/91st for weight and 91st-97thfor height

But any tips im really panicking? She's a bit fussy but I found more of a little eater ? Like wont eat a mountain meal. Less fussy than ds as she'll eat hidden veg but she's so tough with fruit so pushing that snd trying baby snacks like dried fruit ones etc

But yes maybe due a growth spurt? Should I not worry?

We're an active family and she does dancing on weekends but it is toddlerdancing not a fitness class haha

Shes actually 2 year 7 months so rhe 3lb has been inn4 months unless the health visitors scales were slighty off etc

What was her centile when she was last measured?

Its tough because the hv didnt mark it in her red book🤦‍♀️ and i can't remember but I don't think she's grown i remember with eldest I noticed a point between 2 and 3 where I was like wow hes shot up

And she hasn't really. So maybe its looming?

Just mark it yourself. Look along the bottom for their age and then across the side for the weight and where they intersect is their centile.

Honestly she sounds fine to me. Is she wearing 2-3 aged clothes, is she active and happy to walk, run and play every day? Does she have too much screen time? My DD is just 3 and has been coasting along the 91st line for weight for well over a year (started off on the 25th) That's still within the normal range.

A balance bike has been game changing in terms of enabling her to be more active in the garden and outside without it having to be an organised family walk or specific activity as well as taking her swimming every week.

Sometimes 3 to 4 tbh! But it's more so it lasts i found i got 2 to 3 and after a few washes and some slight shrinkage it wouldn't not fit but it was more length?

She asks us to carry her a lot which were trying to stop. Walks and plays but on days out insists on being carried so might as well have a pram🤦‍♀️ screen time i cut down

The people I need to talk to really are grandparents who give the kids sweets and chocolate anytime they ask and tv. Really trying to cut down all of this so for us trying to make it maximum 2 episodes of spidey (for example) and we go out loads and loads. Our commute to nursery etc is a walk or scooter ride

Sounds like you already know where there are some better choices to be made @Stiycht9 which is the most important bit.

What does she do at home, is she active and running about playing or is she sitting down lots and not moving around much? This seems to be a key difference between mine and some friends DCs.

First thing ... stop comparing the children. They're individuals. In relation to food, a lot of people find big meals off putting. I would reduce the size of the meal and offer plenty of snacks during the day. Things she can pick at as she plays etc. I found balance bikes or dolls prams encouraged walking. Took me a lot longer to do a short walk but encouraged walking!

Stiycht9 · 11/08/2026 08:45

So she does have periods where she'll sit and play a bit, like with dolls etc but she does move about a lot especially with her older brother they move about play together and at the playground they can now play together a bit more now she's older

I dont know if it is because like I say she's insisted on being carried etc loads and refuses a pram so we just need to nip that in the bud and increase her walking there too?
