I might turn half my bedroom into a gym

I'm thinking to turn half my bedroom into a gym i was going to do it in my spare room. Which is a good size. But DS has now decided he wants that room. That leaves his current room spare which is about 7ft ×8ft. So i wouldn't get much in there. I also have an exercise bike treadmill and cross trainer. I just want to add a multi gym.. then i maybe be able to tone up and get rid of my horrible bits

To heavy equipment for upstairs, you'll fuck the floorboards.

But his siblings have a bigger room than him. I would be stopping him having equal to them. I may talk to him though.

There are more than one of those, though. And he has a room to himself, they don't.

In any case, he's a kid, you're the grown up who pays the bills.

Where did you get the others don't have a room to themselves 🤷‍♀️ they have a room each.

Yeah i do but I also don't want to be unfair to him. I will talk to him though may be able to bribe him 😅

I have a multi gym, they take up a lot more room than you think. I had to have mine come diagonally from a corner into the centre of the room to use all of the multi gym and still actually use the room for other things. There are more compact ones you can attach to the wall if you're willing to spend the coin.

He’s had the smaller room all this time presumably, so why the need to swap now?

Keepoffmyartichokes · 11/08/2026 11:23

You would need to think about the noise too, it would travel down especially using equipment like a treadmill so you'd need rubber mats

Great for hanging clothes on!

Because theres a bigger room now available there wasn't before.

The bit where you said they had a bigger room. That implies that they share one.

You don't need to bribe him. You're the parent, you get to tell him what to do in the house you pay for.

I don’t think a bedroom gym is a great idea but equally you don’t have to give up your bedroom for your kid.

She isn't planning on it, he was never going to take HER room, just move to the spare room, which she was going to turn into a gym.

I have about 10ft ×8ft to play with maybe a little more. I had a multi gym years ago. So have a rough idea of the size.

That's where one of your kids has moved out, isn't it? So the amount in UC for housing element will be reduced accordingly - you will have less money to 'bribe' him, whether that's with money or by new floor/bed/decorations/whatever.

It's far less expensive to say 'No'.

My income isn't changing. That was sorted ages ago

I am very excited to learn how you plan to decorate your new home gym?
I am hoping for some creative colour blocking on the walls using some tape.
