Does anybody ever get sharps fitted wardrobes?

Keep saying adverts for it on the TV show I'm watching
I always thought they were a rip-off are they?

I’d love fitted wardrobes, they would be a welcome extravagance.

JustAnotherDayInNorfolk · 10/08/2026 20:07

My parents did when they moved last year. They were expensive but they are really happy with them. They had Sharps in their previous house and were equally happy.

Doctordoolittle · 10/08/2026 20:08

I have. They were pricey but I love them!

herbetta · 10/08/2026 20:09

We had them some years ago & yes, they were not only a good product, the fitters & customer service were really first rate.

Craftycorvid · 10/08/2026 20:09

We got them and I’m pleased with the results, but they are certainly expensive! Everyone said ‘find a good local joiner’ but I gave up after being ghosted by about eight of them. They’d turn up, happily discuss plans and then vanish never to be seen again. Sharps do oversee everything, from design onwards.

Merluzzo · 10/08/2026 20:33

I got them a few years ago and I love them, they still look as good as new. Service from Sharps was great, from the designer, the fitter and even the guys who delivered the materials. Highly recommend them.

mtobrokeme · 10/08/2026 21:19

We used a specialist local wardrobe fitter person! Same thing as Sharps but about quarter of the price! They’ve been in situ 15 years now and looks as good as they did when they were fitted.

ShakyBake · 10/08/2026 21:42

A lot of mention of high cost but not no actual amounts.
Can you give me the bottom line?

I had a small double bedroom converted into a walk in wardrobe- £10,000.

ImpossibleGermany · 11/08/2026 10:34

Well somebody must, they've been going for donkey's years. I am sure they are perfectly good wardrobes, but like lots of these companies with a massive budget for national media advertising, expensive showrooms and endless sales and special offers, it's their smoke and mirrors pricing that irks me. It happens with bathrooms, kitchens, double glazing, driveways and all sorts.

They have commission earning sales staff who price things high and do a hard sell on you in your home. They will give you all sorts of nonsense about something being 40% off but only if you sign immediately. No time to look around at comparable companies and differing quotes. They prey on people who are if not vulnerable exactly, very naive about how these things work.

You can always find smaller independent companies who will give you a no-nonsense, no pressure up front quote which you can think about and do comparisons to. They are inevitably cheaper because they don't factor in the sales commissions and huge advertising budgets of these companies.

An example of the sort of thing that will happen with these companies, is that they will give you a price for a 'dry fit' kitchen which doesn't include for example removing the old tiles or patching up any dodgy bits of plaster. So all they are quoting you for is literally the fixtures and fittings they are selling you and the labour costs to fit them. It might sound reasonable until you realise AFTER you've signed, that it won't result in a properly finished kitchen and you've probably got that much to spend again on associated costs from other tradesmen.

When I got a quote from someone similar to Sharps for wardrobes, the quote came out reasonable and I was happy to go ahead, but I asked a few pertinent questions and it turned out that they were only supplying a generic carcass in light, dark or medium wood finish depending on what colour door you'd chosen, but it wouldn't match the door exactly, unless you paid extra to have the carcass laminated on the edges with the same finish as the doors.

Of course I guess what would have happened is that they'd get me to agree to the price then phone up just before my order was factory-produced and say 'by the way, the price you were quoted was for the standard light coloured carcass and fascia boards, but would you like to upgrade to the one where the edges on show are finished to match your exact door colour? It really does look so much better and it would be a shame to spend all these thousands and not go that extra mile, wouldn't it? Then Bam! That's another grand on your bill.

Work on the basis that the first price they give you is ALWAYS a long way off their final price.

Don't ever believe that a 'special' price is only for today. If they can do it at that price today they can do it at that price next week.

Don't believe in half price sales. Unless they are getting rid of old and discontinued stock on specific styles or lines, there is absolutely no such thing. They put their prices up and down all year to comply with the law that says in order to be a genuine sale price, it has to have been offered at a higher price for so many days in the last few months or whatever. They know absolutely nobody but the world's biggest fool is buying when the price is high. Everyone waits for the sale, when the price is still high, but seems really reasonable in comparison.

Don't ever believe things like 'book this week and get a free dishwasher.' There is no such thing as free. They have the margin they aim to make on your overall order, then they have their absolute bottom line. All numbers in between are possibilities that are up for negotiation.

Don't EVER agree to a price without a) driving a hard bargain b) making comparisons to other quotes from other companies c) demanding time to think about it for a few days before you commit. d) making sure you understand every aspect of the job that is covered and what is not covered, and at least a partial breakdown of how the costing works.

Any company that is reluctant to let you have this information and to leave you a proper quote in writing with time to think about it, is overcharging you.

24Dogcuddler · 11/08/2026 10:50

In our previous house we had a quote from Sharps for the master bedroom. We were told that the quote was high as we wanted the equivalent of 2 fitted bedrooms.

We wanted one section with a wardrobe either side of the bed and a run opposite with a dressing table, drawers and more wardrobes.

As some PPs have said we found a local family firm with a showroom. Beautiful job at around a quarter of the cost ( from memory) They still looked like new and helped to sell our house last year. They’d been in about 20 years.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 11/08/2026 10:53

After eleven years they were chipped on the edges on my dressing table. I was going to replace but rang sharps and they were still in guarantee. They replaced the strips and they are like new. Going strong after 15 years.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 11/08/2026 10:55

I had two wardrobes fitted maybe 22 years ago. I think they cost roughly £1,000. They’re still going strong.

yomellamoHelly · 11/08/2026 11:01

We had them everywhere when we moved into this house 15 years ago, so yes.

But I think they're like marmite. Only get them if they're genuinely something that will improve your life in your house and are going to love them.

I ripped ours out. Had the previous owner on the drive in tears (she only moved round the corner).

Apparently they'd cost £12k. She should have spent that money replacing the roof so we didn't have a waterfall 2 weeks in, or replacing the boiler so it didnt die 3 months in, or sorting out the ancient bathrooms / kitchen - or any number of other more fundamental tasks that needed doing imo.

I have. Absolutely love them!

The only thing I would say is that when the 'Designer' visits your home, stick to what you want. I had multiple bedrooms fitted out and in one I specifically wanted full wardrobes only (I wear a lot of dresses). The Designer was trying to get me to have drawers and a dressing table in there - which wouldn't have worked for me in that room. It got to be a little uncomfortable as I just kept saying I wanted wardrobes only.

The wardrobes themselves - perfect!

winnieanddaisy · 11/08/2026 11:32

Sharps are way out of my price range. I just needed a flat wall of wardrobes so I ordered from Ikea. Three double and one single fills the wall . I had drawers and shelves fitted . At each stage of ordering it asked if I wanted the item fitted by Task Rabbit .
The furniture cost about £1000 and Task rabbit about £250 for fitting . The workman was lovely . His work was tidy and he did the whole job in just over 4 hours .
I am very happy with the results .

Fizbosshoes · 11/08/2026 11:38

We moved into our house 20 years ago, there were sharps fitted wardrobes in all the bedrooms. We ripped out one set straight away, because we were doing a nursery. one stayed for about 10 years, the other is still there (we painted the wardrobes and have decorated the bedroom!)

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 11/08/2026 12:01

I’ve heard they don’t provide backs so you basically have a carcass that is fixed to your bare wall, not sure how correct that is though.

Whats Task Rabbit as I need Ikea wardrobes fitted by someone

SusanJJ · 11/08/2026 20:08

Our Sharps fitted wardrobes are very good but we also got some ugly bedside cabinets which were badly made and now disposed of.

MeganM3 · 11/08/2026 20:15

£6,000 for converted loft alcoves to be fitted with drawer storage. It was a tricky space and the end product is very nice. Very deep storage. Not sure if worth the money though. Wouldn’t do it again.

Got the next room done (entire wall of fitted shelves/cupboards in a very large strange shaped loft bedroom) by paying the Sharps fitter who did the dressing room privately for labour and materials for less than a fifth of that price 😆

The dressing room is amazing though!
