Does anyone work with insurance policy payouts? Specifically pet?

My dogs yearly insurance policy is due for renewal in a few days, I didn't know this as for some reason the email went to my spam box.

My dog just had a procedure done last week and the vet has submitted the claim in 2 parts, a few days apart.

Is that claim part of her current policy? Not the new one due to start in a few day?

What if the payment to the vets only goes through after the renewal date, is it the date that its submitted by the vet that dictates which policy the claim falls under, current or new?

If the procudure has been done and the claim submitted, it will be part of the current policy. It might affect the price of the new policy though, now that a claim has been made.

Thankyou.

I don't actually want to renew the policy.
But I am worried that if I go on my portal and select 'do not renew/leave', then they will deny the claims already submitted. But I don't think they will be all finished and approved/paid before the renewal date, so I am not sure what to do.

It says online that I can cancel my renewal within 14 days for a full refund if no claims have been made.

So I could let the direct debit come out for the first months payment of the new policy.

And then once the claims are paid out I can cancel for a refund because the claims were submitted during the previous policy?

If the treatment has taken place within your policy year then they will be paid (unless you have exclusions).
I wouldn't cancel your policy until they're settled though.
Premiums aren't increased because you claim, they're increased because your pet is a whole year older and more likely to require medical care given their short life span. Are you sure you want to cancel? Everything your pet has ever had symptoms of would be excluded by any future insurer.

It did increase because of a claim. They told me so. Its tripled because of a claim at beginning of her policy. And they said another 25% will be added because of her age. Just absolutely unaffordable.

Yes I am sure. The only things that wouldn't be covered going foward are very minor things that I usually pay out of pocket anyways due to high excess (she occasionally gets blocked anal glands and needs them squeezing by nurse and her allergies wouldnt be covered but all she does is take a antihistamine in summer anyways as its very mild)

With a new policy she would be covered for all new illnesses and emergencies. Its not worth the insane price hike just for her bum and summer itchyness.
