Is it worth a CT scan for migraine?

I’ve had migraines for years and after one I can struggle with my speech ie finding words. They are happening quite frequently at the moment as I’m in peri menopause and I so struggle with headaches most days.

gp wants to send me for a ct scan, primarily for reassurance I think as he says he expects it to be completely normal. Because of this I’m worried about the payoff because of the radiation exposure.

Would love to hear thoughts on this from anyone who has had one done for migraine or anyone in the know generally! Thanks

I had worsening migraines and had a CT scan for peace of mind. It was worth it as my migraines has gotten quite extreme and I really wanted to rule out anything sinister. All was fine in the end.

I wouldn’t worry about the radiation for a CT scan .. you will be exposed to a similar amount by eating walnuts or visiting certain rocky beauty spots in UK .. much more radiation around than we realise
Have your scan and if all fine , then that is reassuring to know and either treatment or medication can be offered for the exact circumstances rather than a hope ?
They may also offer you an MRI and a possible diagnosis of hemiplegic migraine.

The fact that your GP has referred you means that it's already been decided that it's worth the minimal radiation exposure to rule out anything serious or look for anything that could be causing your migraines. So it doesn't need to be considered further and you should have the scan.
