How to fully stop drinking?

Now I'm not what I'd describe an alcoholic? However I have adhd and aspergers (diagnosed as a teen) I can be very repetitive and obsessive so same things a lot etc

Im 29 now. 2 kids 4 and 2. Bit of a stressful period I have struggled since my youngest juggling both. Last year on the odd night after the kids went to bed, id get a certain cocktail can, enjoy the slight buzz it gave me

However now it's become slightly routine? So I am having a few every week. After bed time having a few (2 nights) but its only this i dont crave any other alcohol or buy any
I've been seeing it as a treat when ive had a stressful day

I dont get drunk I have 1 or 2 cans and it gives me a slight buzz? Not many units but again

I dont want this habit now. Any tips how to be fully alcohol free? I dont want to drink at all i never really used to dont like the taste but these I do like the taste hence why there's not been that issue

I just want to eradicate it. I dont smoke. Want to be healthy as much as I can with my young kids

You need to build a lifestyle that makes that habit inconvenient. Ideally an activity for the time that you usually spend drinking that’s a replacement activity, that doesn’t enable you to drink, and where you don’t even think about the drinking.

Is there another adult around that you can do something with? Company’s usually a good distraction.

Obviously be super conscious in terms of not buying the drink, and not allowing any kind of excuse to buy it, eg ‘I’m stressed, just this once’. Find other habits to cope with stress, that you enjoy. What kind of things do you like? Exercise? Reading? Knitting? If you have an obsessive personality, finding something that you can get really into to the point of distraction may just do the trick.

Is stopping socially a challenge for you as well, or not really?

So i don't really go out tbh. I have 1 close friend who is pregnant haha! But before that we meet for food or coffee

And I dont attend work night outs really. If me and DH go out it is without alcohol like the cinema or a hike etc! So socially isnt an issue

Its this habit I've got. Stressful day,? Have 2 cans when the kids are in bed etc

Thank you finding another activity for this time is a good idea. Will definitely try❤️

Doesn’t sound like you are having many units but alcohol tolerance can be reduced if you are autistic.

It’s good that that you want to stay healthy. Sounds like you are having them as a little treat to enjoy when relaxing.

Why not research some brands of mocktails and try those instead. Lots of online reviews but expect they have them wherever you shop.

Good luck

Perhaps if you mention which particular cocktail can you enjoy, people can recommend similar alcohol-free alternatives.

Good for you by the way, cutting down is a great idea and will be so good for your health. Flowers

You could swap it for another drink which symbolises the start of your relaxation time. Like a posh flavoured tonic water in a can.

Yes, do this and persevere - at first it might be difficult but eventually you'll probably find you've completely gone off the idea of alcohol altogether. After that, it's easy.

Why don't you put on your trainers and go for a walk as soon as the kids are in bed? Just a ten/ twenty minute walk, once you're out you might find you walk longer. Then hopefully when you get home the thought of a drink has gone and you can stick the kettle on?
