Is it possible my waters broke?

Posting for traffic! Is it possible to not know for sure if your waters have broken?
Im full term, was peeing and then felt a gentle pop. Then it felt like a gush (of pee? Or amniotic fluid?).

I stayed on the toilet until it felt like it didn't have any more. In the 10 mins since Ive then dribbled each time I went back to the loo to check.

Is it possible my waters broke at the same time? I expected something that would feel so different Id know for sure. Waiting on the maternity unit to call me back and hoping someone on here might know.

It could be possible but no one here can tell you any more than that. Put a pad on and if you go hospital they can test it to see if it’s amniotic fluid

AlllPanicNoDisco · 08/08/2026 15:14

Yes definitely possible. I woke up feeling like I was desperate for a wee and ran to the toilet and then my water broke all over the bathroom floor. Definitely call the triage line and go in for them to check you.

Mine was a bit like this but getting out of shower when I was wet already! I’d assume it is and ring your maternity unit for advice, they can check if it was them going

ifonly4 · 08/08/2026 15:24

It was actually picked up on a scan my amniotic fluid had gone, and the first question they asked me was if I'd been passing unexplained fluid or anything odd had happened when I was going to toilet - no in my case.

I'd say if there are no signs of labout within 24 hours to get yourself checked (a simple scan will confirm what waters are around the baby).

As my waters had just about completely gone and I wasn't in labour (three weeks early), they told me baby had to come out - they would give me a trial at labour but if necessary would operate. My daughter was born literally 51 hours later - so they didn't exactly panic to get her out. She was fine by the way.

That’s how it was for me! Good luck OP 👶

Washingforweeks · 08/08/2026 15:27

This happened to me and it was my front waters that had gone they said. Ring up the maternity ward and they will examine you to see what’s going on x

MabelAnderson · 08/08/2026 15:27

Yes it could be your waters, or your hind waters, which is a smaller amount of fluid. You do need to get it checked as they will want to induce you if you don’t go into labour pretty soon, as it’s an infection risk if your waters are leaking.

Angelyogini · 08/08/2026 16:58

Yes very much possible. My case was similar. I was in the toilet after finishing work and thought I had some extra leakage after getting out. Called triage, was told to come in for a test which confirmed itwas my waters gone but then was sent home as no labour.

They had in fact broken! Thank you everyone who responded

Good luck OP!

Oh the relief when my waters broke! The pressure build up was so intense! There was no questioning of whether it was waters for me.

Good luck OP! Hope you're not waiting too much longer

VibrancyInspector · 09/08/2026 00:46

That sounds EXACTLY like your waters have broke. Good luck hopefully you’re of having a baby as we speak!

Thank you, he arrived safely after a hectic labour. Fingers crossed we get home today but I appreciate all the replies, they gave me the necessary kick to set off for the labour ward.

Congratulations xx

mondaytosunday · 10/08/2026 00:15

Could be! I stood up from the sofa to go to bed and no mistaking it there was a gush and it kept on coming. It was over three weeks early. I was not in active labour either but I went through my supply of maternity pads overnight while waiting for surgery (this bit was planned on medical advice, just earlier than expected). Every time I moved more fluid came out.
But hey the wonder of it all is your experience and my experience and another woman’s experience may be totally different!

MrsTomRipley · 10/08/2026 00:20

Congratulations
