How can I stop dreading bad news after a good year?

I know this is completely batshit crazy but as a family we're having a good year. My DD completed her degree and got her first job, my DS has got engaged, there have been 21st birthday celebrations - and many other happy occasions. Really good - but every other year we've had things to celebrate there have been bad things to counter them. In the year we married and had our first child - my MIL died. When my DS got his A level results and first job - my DF died. When we went on a major holiday which we had scrimped and saved for - we were burgled. I just feel this feeling of dread. I've always tried to keep a balance so that the extra good things don't mean that extra bad things are coming. Help me rationalise this please.

I can relate to this OP. I've always tended towards believing that in someway I have to "pay" for something good. The worst example being the absolutely wonderful holiday my DH, DS and I had some years ago.It was folowed by six months of what I can only describe as life being really hard and tough culminating in my DH dying very unexpectedly - he collapsesd and died on his way to work the first day back after the Christmas/ New Year holiday.

The only way I try and rationalise this is that in reality life for most people is a roller coaster of ups and downs. That no one has the right to expect life to be smooth and happy all the time. That experiencing the hard and difficult times makes the good times even more precious.

I'm really pleased you having a good year OP. Hopefully after all the heartaches you have had this is your reward.
