New Job Not Working Out - Advice

Hello,

I am feeling incredibly stressed and worried and wanted to try and get some advice from a different prospective,

I started a new job at the beginning of May, It’s a small/medium sized company but part of a bigger group, the business is in quite a difficult place due to quite big sales decline over the last couple of years and there’s quite a lot of pressure to “turn it around”, My direct line manager doesn’t really make much effort generally and just sighs a lot…

Anyway to cut a long story short, My 3 month probation ended this week, A couple of weeks ago he told me everything was fine and he was happy with what I was doing etc and all was ok probation wise, then suddenly out of nowhere this Tuesday he asked for a catch up during the afternoon and told me it was being extended…despite telling me a few weeks ago that everything was fine? I was completely blindsided, I didn’t really get any context either, and have spent the last three days feeling sick to my stomach, worried, on edge, not sleeping and worrying about not having a job and being able to keep a roof over my head,

I just don’t know what to do, deep down I feel completely exhausted and like the rug has been pulled from me, I’m if honest I haven’t been enjoying the job either, It’s a lot more operational and clunky than I am used to or experienced in and finding it all like pulling teeth but equally now I’m genuinely scared about what could happen,

I just don’t know what to do.

Start looking for other jobs.

Did you ask why you probation was being extended when you were told everything was fine?

You need to know where the issues lie so you can work on improving them, and see this job as a stopgap while you look for something else. When you know the issues, you also need to ask for them in writing, and reply, saying what you oropose to do to address them, including where you want input from your line manager.

They’ve extended your probation because they can’t afford to keep you. They could have just got rid of you at the end but they’re going through the motions.

you need to use this time to get another job Flowers
it’s not you

I would say the same, keeping you dangling, they need you but can’t afford you.
I’d look for another more secure job.
