I’ve just had my hair cut short from Bob to graduated longer layers on top

i can’t seem to get a bounce , umph to my hair
ive all sorts of good hair products but nothing doing it ! Please I havnt got used to the different size round brush yet

i need something to hold it in shape and define the shape with a bit of umph as it quite fine now at aged 68
i hate the flat look it’s giving even when I’ve sprayed it with hair that’s supposed to hold it in place

any recommendations please?

What’s your hair thickness/texture

KrazyKatty · 07/08/2026 15:53

The longer layers on top are the likely problem.

Are you using a narrow round brush and blow drying from the root?

Can you post a pic of your hair or a pic of a style that’s similar to yours so we can advise more accurately?

This is a helpful video that explains about applying product in the right areas and some blow drying basics.

I would try a volumising mousse, the ShockWaves one is good you don’t need to spend a lot. Maybe some volumising powder at the roots too to give some lift and texture.
A blow dry brush like the Revlon One Step or Babyliss Big Hair might help you get more volume than a regular hairdryer.

Can someone help me understand what "posting for traffic" means? Thank you!

I can't use products as I'm allergic, so I just put some Velcro rollers in and let the hair air dry and they give it some lift and bounce.

OP has posted in ‘Chat’ rather than ‘Style and Beauty’ because it tends to get more hits. More ‘traffic’, so to speak.

OP, make sure you don’t wash your hair too often. I have fine hair that tends to go limp if I wash it too regularly.

sunandpeonies · 07/08/2026 20:54

Just wash your hair, no conditioner then use a Tymo heated brush to dry and style your hair at the same time.
Velcro rollers are great too for lift. I often sleep with one in at the front for a bouncy look in the morning.

I have hair very similar to yours. The only thing that works for me is a volume mousse, a round brush for drying and Oribe Dry Texturing Spray when Dry
