Has anyone found solar control glass worthwhile for south-facing windows?

We have a south facing back to the (80s mid terrace) house and every double glazed window pane has now blown in the last year or so.... I've struggled for a while to heat the house in winter and cool it in summer for a few years and I wonder if this is partly why!

I've asked a local window company to quote me for new panes vs a full set of new windows as I'd like to change the style of a couple to improve airflow.

I have also asked for a price to make all the south facing windows / patio doors with solar control glass to try to manage the solar gain on that side of the house.

Does anyone actually have this glass installed? What sort of cost difference was it for you and do you think it was worth it?

Not exactly, but I got reinforced glass windows last year in my south facing rooms, and it has made a huge difference. They have a kind of blue appearance from outside, and from the inside look completely clear but don't heat up like the old windows did. Brilliant in a heat wave. Not so good on clear sunny days in the winter; sunshine on the old glass made the rooms warm quickly even when the outside temp was low, but not so much with the new glass.

House near me out on bright green shutters - looks fab!

Great, but I can't have shutters and the glass needs replacing anyway....

I’d regret the heat loss for most of the year.

I’ve been look at this! Have had quotes to replace my perfectly good glazing with pilkinton sun cool in an attempt to stop my new build overheating. Apparently it stays cool in summer. But doesn’t affect heat gain in the winter and there is an architectural version that is clear so doesn’t give a tint to the light in the house. We can’t fit external shutters or air con for practical reasons so I’m wondering how much this will help.? Would love to know if anybody has tried this.
