We need to replace the windows as part of a renovation. We can find it through mortgage or equity release of another property sale. Potentially it might be cheaper to to get 0%. We already have changed the front door.

We need
2 composite doors back and side,
1 French
2 bay
6 small windows (hall, landing, kitchen, utility, office, d/s bathroom
1 large bedroom window
1 medium
1 small bedroom
1 medium bathroom
1 garage

curren white UPVC - not sure what we will get, it won’t be wood as too expensive

We had our windows replaced last year.
4 x very large windows
Bathroom with a fire escape fastening.
Kitchen window
Inner of the front door new glass
Back door
Patio door
Plus as a one off they made a double fronted garage door.
All in Upvc. Price £5275.

This was a small local firm in Cheshire.

Thank you that is great. Are you happy with them? Do they have a a vent that you can lock them open a crack?

Yes they have opening windows at the top which have patterned glass in and vents in the frame at the top.
All have locks.
Best thing is the fire escape window in the bathroom as it is easier to open for fresh air. I'm short and struggle to reach the top.

Have you tried ChatGPT for this? It gave me good evaluations of different types of replacement doors and accurate estimates of cost in my area. Helped me to clarify my options and there was no sales pitch.

if you like the look of wood but not the cost, have a look at the UPVC foils - you can get them in various colours including cream which looks more like painted wood rather than the shiny white ones that only ever look like shiny white plastic. Only slightly more expensive but look a lot better (imo). For the shape, take a look at flush fit UPVC windows which look more like traditional wooden windows from the outside. I think they look much nicer but it’s down to personal preference. And if possible try to get ‘equal sight’ or something like that which means that all the windows of a certain size look the same irrespective of whether they open or not (the ones that don’t open will have a dummy sash). It will add slightly to the cost but will improve the look from outside which tends to increase the value when you come to sell. You can also go all out and get Timberlook or Evolution windows and doors which have the joints as they would be on a traditional wooden structure rather than the diagonal joints that you get on UPVC so that you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference, but without the maintenance and higher cost of wood.

Not at all, but I had a new conservatory and exterior doors recently and investigated all the options quite thoroughly!
You can also get some nice looking doors in UPVC these days. Evolution do some very realistic UPVC imitations of traditional wooden doors.
