Handyman has cracked our quartz worktop

Just had handyman finish replacing our kitchen cupboard doors and this morning as putting everything away we have found 2 deep cracks on our thick quartz worktop.

It doesn't look like it's gone all the way through.

What are our options please? He's coming to look at it but I'd appreciate advice as to how to proceed.

When did he finish the works, was it very recent? Hopefully he will be amenable but you also have to be prepared to put it on your house insurance if he doesn’t seem amenable.
Can you contact the worktop company to see if it can be a smaller repair or if the whole thing needs to be replaced?

He should have public liability insurance to cover this sort of thing. He will need to contact his insurer to make a claim.

How did it happen? I can't think how replacing cupboard doors would cause this unless he's done something like drop a heavy tool, or stand on it.

He finished yesterday. I don't understand how it could have happened either. I think he has dropped something on it. The MOST disappointing bit is that he didn't tell us. We thought we'd found someone honest.

Has anyone had a repair done on quartz? I see there are companies out there.

Have you any photographs before the work started?

No, I didn't routinely take photos of the kitchen before.

This. He should have insurance.

All okay! He came round and it was actually glue. It had dried so it looked and felt like cracks. He removed it with a scraper thing and it looks fine now.

Thanks for your advice all.

That is such a relief. You’ll see the funny side maybe in a couple of years <maybe>. Today was stressful though.

I did something similar calling back carpet fitters because the door bars were ruined. They grinned and swiftly removed the plastic protective strips. 😳

He broke he he repairs/replaces. That's what his business insurance is for

Ha! What a relief for you! Instant headache cured ☺️

@HalzTangz
He didn't break anything. It was glue. He cleaned it off.
