How would you feel about this?

I went for a job interview, it was in a large multi purpose building- there was a doctors service, a library and a few small nhs based roles )physio etc) running from it. The job I was applying for would not be based there and did not have any offices based there. I got there about 15 minutes before
there was no obvious signage so I asked the doctors reception. They had no clue, I asked in the library they didn’t know and they also asked another team who also didn’t know so I sat on the main waiting room which was the doctors one, there were smaller waiting areas as well. I assumed someone would come out for me.
when it got to my interview time and no one had come to get me I started to panic. I kept checking my interview letter, I tried to ring the number on the letter ( no answer ) . At about 30 minutes after my interview was due to start I was trying not to cry as I really wanted a shot at this job, then the person due to interview after me came in, (we know each other) she was very chill and said “oh someone will find us.”
40 minutes after my interview start time someone came down stairs from a area that public couldn’t access and called my name.
the interview went terribly as I was still anxious and I forgot half of what I’d prepared. needless to say I didn’t get the job.

My colleague who also interviewed implied I had over reacted . How would you have felt in that position. ?

I would have felt irritated and that it was a sign of unprofessionalism.

Americanstyle · 04/08/2026 07:37

That’s very unprofessional on their part an d absolutely no way to treat a candidate. I would have been not at my best for an interview, having worried and waited all that time - especially when it’s a job that you really want.

vincettenoir · 04/08/2026 07:40

I would have felt frustrated by that too. Sorry OP.

It was a NHS role. It clearly wasn’t well thought out

I'd have genuinely mentioned it in the interview. But then I'm getting too old to put up with that sort of crap.

hardliquormixedwithabitofintellect · 04/08/2026 08:28

That’s really bad and if that’s a sign as to how they treat their employees too I would think I had dodged a bullet by not getting the job. Although I do understand your frustration and disappointment.

Apricotdog · 04/08/2026 08:31

As per PP you have dodged a bullet. I had an interview during consultation once at 0730, our passes for the building didn’t work before 0800, I didn’t know and was late after convincing security to let me through, it hit marked as late arrival, I was flustered and got made redundant.

That’s really unfair.

I attended an interview, also NHS, and the bell to alert reception wasn't working. I was outside knocking and waving to try to attract the receptionist's attention. It was only after the time had passed for my interview that the interviewer must have wondered where I was that the receptionist finally buzzed me in. I too was flustered and didn't give my best performance. I didn't get the job either. It was very unprofessional.
