Dry lips

I know this is boring and people have much worse problems but…

My lips are annoying the life out of me!!! They don’t look dry/sore etc but they feel it and I’m constantly putting lip barm on. The insides of my lips even feel dry/irritable. Any recommendations for a lip barm or something else I can try? (I’ve tried loads!)

I know it sounds dramatic but it’s such an annoying sensation. Even when I apply balm 10 minutes later they are throbbing again 🙈

When did that start?

I would stop using whatever lip balm you’re currently using because it’s clearly not working.

Try slugging Savlon. It’s not for ingestion so don’t eat it but I have used it on my lips for 20 years and its the only thing which instantly works and I am still alive.

After that for a few days. Add hylauronic acid. You can get some from the ordinary. You need to rebuild your skin barrier.

Scrap the lip balm for now because I think there’s something in there you are reacting to so you need to get back to a base level before experimenting with which ones are ok for you.

Once I realised that lip balms/chapstick etc were making my dry lips worse, it cleared up. Now I just use a "hardly there" nude lipstick.
No dry lips.

I’ve had chronically dry lips all my life. I switched to SLS free toothpaste which helped a bit but the thing that has finally sorted them is a really really good moisturizing skin care routine. My skin / hair has always been dry. I use 3 or 4 layers of moisturizing toner / essence / ampoule each morning and although I don’t apply to my lips they seem to have benefited anyway.

lip balm makes my lips drier if I use it all the time!

It's balm. Not barm.

Most balms make your lips drier. I find Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm the best for actually moisturising. Also Blistex when they are very sore as it should help heal them.

Thankyou for your replies. I think you’re probably right about it irritating my lips but the thought of not putting it on 🙈🙈 honestly it’s like a constant throbbing and irritation. It feels like I’ve had my lips done 😂

its such a weird feeling as it’s inside my lips/mouth as well 🙈

I have been suffering with my lips cracking and peeling since medical treatment (not skin related) earlier this year. I tried beeswax lip balm and vaseline but as soon as they wore off, it was just as bad.

Asked on the beauty board and received excellent advice so for the last two weeks or so I've been using Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask at bedtime and La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lèvres during the day and I've seen a huge difference.

I've just bought Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Sugar Melt Lip Scrub and that seems nice too.

I've also got Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Nourishing Lip Balm and will try that when I finish the La Roche Posay one. I have tried a coloured Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Protectant Stick and it's ok as a non-drying Lip colour but as soon as it wears off, my lips go dry again, whereas the La Roche Posay seems to have a more lasting effect.
