has there been a mix up here? my kitchen is literally falling apart and i am the ONLY one skipped for the new kitchens currently being installed on my street

About six months ago I had a 'stock condition survey' done via my housing association, The man doing the inspection walked into my kitchen and said 'how are they leaving you like this? this needs a new kitchen, it's falling apart, damp, faces of cupboards peeling off, shelves warping inside cupboards'

A month later I got a random call saying they wanted to make an appointment to come and fit my new BATHROOM. I told her I don't need a new bathroom at all as it was practically new and was also an adapted wet room. the survey said it's a kitchen I need' she said they don't deal with kitchens only bathrooms and if I didn't need one she would take me off the list.

fast forward to now.. workmen everywhere on my street fitting KITCHENS on every single flat except for mine, he showed me the work sheet where it listed every address on my street and mine wasn't there.

Has there been a mix up when the woman called me and took me off the list for the bathroom? do i call housing association to ask what's going on? I am soon to be moving out into another of their properties which is getting the kitchen so it doesn't really matter now but i'm thinking of whoever moves in here after me, the kitchen in this flat is from the early 90s and is not functional at all so it would be unfair for them to miss out when i'm gone and if i don't let the HA know it might be skipped for god knows how many years?

Mumsnet isn’t your housing association so how would you expect anyone here to know? Is this rage bait because the rest of us have to pay for our own kitchens if we want them replacing?

You need to contact them.

I remember your bathroom-mix-up thread. I think you’re right - they never put you on a kitchen list because they put you down for a bathroom in error. When that was cancelled, you weren’t added to the kitchen list.

Definitely call the HA tomorrow.

Ask them.

Actually I missed that bit. This would make sense.

Arlanymor · 02/08/2026 15:03

They're likely waiting to do it until after you move.

PollysKenwood · 02/08/2026 15:06

What’s rage baity about the post?
I’m a landlord and it’s my responsibility to replace the kitchen if it’s falling apart. The amount I receive in rent should account for maintenance so ultimately the tenant does pay.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 02/08/2026 16:46

No, don’t call the only people who could actually tell you what has gone wrong 🙄

This is a talk forum. People ask all kinds of questions to get points of view.

I think you are right OP.

How soon are you moving? If it's quite soon they are probably planning to do it when they void the property. But give them a call - my housing repair team are always lovely and very willing to help, so hopefully yours will be too.

She doesn't need "points of view". She needs an answer to a question that only the housing association can give her.

You lot can wade in all you want, but there's only one answer, and there's only one place she can get it from.

All else is just timewasting.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 02/08/2026 21:35

If you can put up with the disruption of a new kitchen phone them. If the kitchen is really bad they should replace it after you leave and before the new tenant moves in.

Time wasting! Here on Mumsnet??? Surely nobody here is time wasting. Maybe you, posted plenty of times yesterday on multiple threads, when you could have been doing something far more useful with your time instead of ‘wading in’ with your points of view.

It was Sunday afternoon when she posted for a start. What answer is she going to get from a housing association on a Sunday afternoon?

Having a go at people for posting on a talk forum is weird and patronising. People post all sorts of stuff on here and other people including you, ‘wade in with points of view’.

romdowa · 03/08/2026 06:27

Its because you are moving. They will refurb your flat when you move out.

Oh for goodness sake. Rage bait indeed 🙄🙄🙄 Do you even understand how renting works?! People who private rent and have big high flying jobs in London also get repairs to their houses done for 'free' 😆

Nobody is "having a go". What you and several other people on this thread seem determined to pretend to not understand is that Mumsnet isn't the place to get help with housing association queries. That is why the housing association have a helpline that OP can call.

Similarly, if you were to buy some bread from Sainsbury's that had gone off, Mumsnet wouldn't be able to help with that either.

I recognise that you just want to try and start an argument, but I'm afraid I'm not interested in that. Thanks for trying though.
