Makeup demonstrations - brands etc

My dd (27) has had a difficult few years, but is getting herself sorted and I’m so proud of her.

she wants to start wearing makeup properly, at the moment she’s like me and does the basic and never really learnt how to apply that properly.

i was thinking about treating her to a makeup demo and buy her some nice makeup.

I have absolutely no idea on brands. I tend to use boots 7, so need advice on which brands. It’s just for everyday work / socialising nothing to fancy to start with.

where would the best be to go, I’m thinking boots / house of Fraser / John Lewis ? And what sort of budget do I need, I’m think c£100 ?

Depending on what brands you are thinking of, £100 won't go far if you are basically starting from scratch and need everything.

I use Clinique a lot and just one lipstick is £25ish with foundation close to £40. Have a look on some websites and check prices.

Any of the stores you mentioned that have beauty concessions should be fine and will be able to help.

So I’m really out of date 😂😂😂

so a budget of about £300 is more realistic? That’s doable

I just don’t want to over whelm her, if she sees loads of bottles and different things to use she won’t bother, she will also worry if I spend a lot. Feel she has to try and use it, and I just want to boost her confidence.

Mac at Selfridges have lots of different makeup appointments and the cost of the appointment can be redeemed against products (e.g. 1.5 hour beauty lesson is £120, but your daughter then can use £120 to buy make up)

If you have a Mac store or counter locally they are good ...they do a make up lesson/make over by a property trained make up artist.
There is a charge but it is redeemable against a purchase

She doesn’t have to spend £300 and doesn’t have to use all from the same brand. Also, places like Space NK have demos but use from different brands.

as pp said most brands redeem cost of demo against products.

For starters I’d advise:-

foundation
concealer
blusher
mascara
eyeliner
lip gloss or lipstick
one or two eyeshadows, maybe a palette. Endure she will use all the shades in the pallete.

i wouldn’t bother with lipliner, rarely use mine. I also find most mascaras I use (and I’ve used many, expensive and cheap) the cheaper ones are just as good as expensive ones.
