Anyone found effective help for severe peeling heels during oncology treatment?

Posting in chat for traffic.

its a lot gruesome. The skin is falling off my feet. Mainly heels and sides of heels. Oncology have recommended creams with Urea but nothing seems to help long term. Have considered going to a chiropodist but the prices have put me off and concerned they won’t even be able to help.

I slaver my feet with cream whenever possible and wear cosy socks and cushioned slip on shoes, but in places it’s red raw and very sore.

anyone have any advice?, it’s miserable and ive turned down a few nice outings because of the walking involved.

A bit off the wall, but sit down and eat a whole tub of clotted cream. If you are either on purpose or by accident eating a low fat diet, your body might not have enough building materials to grow new skin cells at the rate needed.

Best wishes, and hope you get some more advice.

Wow, thanks, that’s a nice one. I’ll sneak a scone and jam in with it too. 😃

I had similar issues with my feet while on chemo. Also peripheral neuropathy which took me to the point I could barely walk or wear shoes. Like you even short walks were impossible. I used the urea cream religiously which did help a bit. Sorry not to be of more help but I think I just came to accept that there are many odd side effects of chemo some of which can be eased, but ultimately the side effects are the result of the chemo doing its work. And I needed it to do its work. You’re right - it is miserable, frustrating and unfair on top of what you are already going through. But it did get better post chemo. Keep as active as you can though as being ‘off you feet’ causes other problems and isn’t great for your mental health. When I really wanted an outing requiring some walking I used to pop some painkillers knowing I would suffer after, but be glad of the outing itself. It’s tough, but try to balance it all up so you get some enjoyment without causing further damage to your feet. Good luck xxx
