Did anyone else ever attend a Top of the Pops recording?

I always watch Top of the Pops on a Friday if I am staying in. I was in the audience for one show back in the 70s. I wondered whether anyone else ever got on a TOTP show. All I remember was how the BBC staff ordered everyone about. No choice over which act you would be part of. Even the stars were ordered around.

I went twice in 1989 aged 16. You just had to write in and about 6 months later you’d get tickets for the following week’s recording.

I remember seeing Milli Vanilli and Bros. Loved Bros.
Got to stand next to the presenter at one point.
I often watch on Fri nights when it’s re-run but don’t think I’ve seen the episodes o went to.
It felt v cool when I was 16. We lived in London so it was easy to go.

I went in the mid 90’s, being bossed around is a very good description. We had to practice dancing before recording, which was excruciating at 15, we were told off for not being enthusiastic enough. The studio was a large room painted black, quite oppressive. It definitely looks better on TV.

We went to top of the pops when take that were on, we didn't watch the show but we all hung around out the front, we then got invited backstage with others to meet take that and get autographs I moved along the line to get my autographs and came to Robbie, my favourite, he asked how I was, I said I'm so nervous so he said not to be nervous and kissed me on the cheek! I still have the signed tour shirt!
