Water Leak

My road has a water leak. There is a constant flow pouring onto the road. It took me 45 minutes to get through to the Water Board using the emergency number and they told me that they would be out to view/fix it in the next ten days!
I feel like getting my hose out!

In addition so many reservoirs across the country are dry. Not because of a water shortage but because they, as private companies, some not even UK owned, have decided to “mothball” them to save money.

We had a mains later leak nearby recently, after reporting it said they would investigate within 13 days but they had the road shut within 2 hours and workers there overnight repairing it

That's surprising as we smelt gas a few years ago and rang the number and cut a long story short the police turned up and used a ram on a unoccupied house within 15 minutes.

Water, gas and electricity are treated extremely seriously and rightly so as they are just so dangerous.

Sewage is also up there as if you tell them it's backing up into your house (through pipes) they have to legally send someone out in 1 hour and inspect it

@ShakyBake A water leak running down the street doesn't quite fit into that level of emergency response.

But if that water was running through your house oranghandles I can promise you now your heart would be racing

IIRC 3 billion litres of water are wasted in a day due to leaks. It's horrendous.

They will prioritise burst mains (water shooting 20ft in the air for example) over smaller leaks. Then you have to factor in having available staff or contractors; getting permission from the council to excavate; checking with the gas and electricity providers in the area that theres no pipes or cables; maybe even arranging diversions or traffic lights. There's a lot going on behind the scenes before a leak is repaired.
The ground is so baked hard that's it's cracking and in turn it's cracking the buried water pipes.
