Ocular migraine or something else?

So I’ve had what my GP diagnosed as ocular migraines for a few years. No pain, just kaleidoscope vision in my left eye that lasts for up to 30 minutes.

On Monday I’d been shopping, as I was leaving the store had a severe pain in left eye with kaleidoscope vision. Got back to my car, sat for a few minutes and it settled.

I have family history of glaucoma, my eye is showing no physical signs of this. No redness or blood shot.

Rang my GP the next morning and explained what had happened, they suggested I went to the optician for a check up.

Since then I’ve had times when the pain has come back briefly, and the eye just doesn’t feel right.
I have an appointment for tomorrow. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and what the outcome was?

I have had ocular migraines for a few years - they seem quite common after a certain age.

Mine have so far been without any pain but I sometimes do feel tired afterwards. I think they can be associated with pain though.

It’s good you’re going to see someone to get checked out. When the episode finishes does the pain go away?

I’ve always suffered from migraines but I started getting ocular migraines since my first pregnancy many years ago. Migraines run in the female side of my family and my aunt was even hospitalised with what they thought was a stroke, but it turned out to be a very bad migraine. I also get pain above my right eye and my eye occasionally twitches. I’ve been told it’s all hormone related but I’ve noticed these symptoms tend to happen when I’m going through a highly stressful time in my life. I’d recommend asking for a second opinion if you’re unhappy with what you’re being told.

My mum and I both suffer from migraines with visual disturbances and
have had much more than usual due to the weather, there’s a weird feeling in the air at the moment

Uveitis? Sometimes called Iritis. High street opticians don’t always pick it up though.
