Love St Agnes in Cornwall because..
Not too touristy
Few good restaurants
Fab cove/beach
Beach bar Schooners
5 star bakery

BUT I fancy a change...where else in Cornwall or may be Devon is just like St Agnes?

The ‘not too touristy’ bit may be hard.

Carbis Bay? Newlyn? Marazion? Porthleven? Fowey? Portreath?

Forgottenmyphone · 31/07/2026 13:31

Combe Martin

Eggybreadwithnuts · 31/07/2026 16:45

@Forgottenmyphone tell me about Coombe Martin

@Cornishmumofone thanks Fowey too quiet, Carbis too touristy

St Agnes is glorious in the sunshine and feels very unique, it’s a particularly nice piece of Cornwall

Eggybreadwithnuts · 03/08/2026 07:13

Hartland or Baggy Point in Devon?

violetcuriosity · 03/08/2026 09:06

Polperro is nice. I loveeee St. Agnes, we stay in Porthtowan every year for 2 weeks and take the bus to St. Agnes for a boozy Schooners lunch 🙌🏻

TonTonMacoute · 03/08/2026 20:36

Hmm, it's not much of a change if you want somewhere just like it. Or am I missing something?

Cornishclio · 03/08/2026 21:18

Port Isaac? Crackington Haven? Holywell Bay. Crantock? Those are all on the North Coast and likely to be quieter than Newquay, Padstow or St Ives but have some facilities and nice beaches. On the South Coast maybe somewhere on the Lizard like Porthleven or Mullion or the Roseland peninsular is nice or Portscatho.

PersuadingAnneElliot · 03/08/2026 21:24

St Mawes/Portscatho?

Hellorainyday · 03/08/2026 21:25

Haven’t been to St Agnes, but Boscastle is nice. In the evenings all the daytrippers have gone.

Fowey too quiet? It's much busier than St Agnes, that's why I didn't suggest it!

St Just is similar, maybe not as touristy. The Lizard is not as touristy as other places.

Polperro is the most beautiful but a lot of day trippers. In the evening it doesn't feel touristy at all.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 04/08/2026 18:01

Yep Fowey too steep, no beach only a couple of pubs, and nothing to do

I don’t know what St Agnes is like so I can’t compare it to Fowey but I’ve spent a lot of time in Fowey in the past. Some lovely pubs there and shops, crab fishing and going out on boats and exploring the town, river and sea, going to Readymoney Beach in Fowey and St Catherine’s Castle and exploring the woods. Yes, it is steep but enough there to fill your time depending on what you are into.

xino · 04/08/2026 18:09

I too think Fowey is far busier than St Agnes. It does have a beach - Readymoney Cove. And lots of restaurants.

You might actually like Falmouth. Yes it’s bigger than St Agnes but you have several beaches, loads of restaurants and you’re on the rail line. Boats to St Mawes etc. And it’s nowhere near as touristy as eg St Ives.

Papyrophile · 04/08/2026 20:27

Rock? Daymer Bay?

BrandiedAromatics · 04/08/2026 20:40

@Eggybreadwithnuts It would be good if you could say when you are hoping to visit. Everywhere should be 'touristy' now. And what you enjoy when you are here?

Supersimkin7 · 04/08/2026 20:42

St Mabyn

Wellthisisacanofworms · 04/08/2026 20:49

Hope Cove in Devon, though I don't think there is a beach bar. There is a lovely pub though and some nice restaurants.

Came on here to say Porthtowan - did you see the cafe had a bad fire last month?

@Forgottenmyphone tell me about Coombe Martin

Combe Martin has a slow-paced "Famous Five" seaside village vibe. Compared to other towns, it’s more traditional and unpretentious, not trendy or commercial. The beach is sheltered but the scenery is fairly rugged.
Combe Martin has a a couple of great bakeries, of which I prefer Bobbie’s Bakes because it sells the most incredible, inventive, photogenic European style patisseries.
And a beach bar… The Focsle Inn which is right on the beach. There are better places further inland but you can’t beat it for views and convenience.
