What cleaning is normally expected when leaving an Airbnb?

Keen for reviews on staying in airbnbs and what’s ‘normal’. My friends aren’t wanting to go and stay in an air BnB as they feel you need to clean them from top to bottom including the bathroom. I was baffled by this as I genuinely have never thought to clean a whole place before. I empty bins, clean up kitchen, do dishes and put away etc but Ive never cleaned the place as if it was my own house. They say we would need to hoover the place including the stairs? Surely that’s what the cleaning fee is for

High end doesn't mean large and expensive. That's not the definition of high end. High end is quality of finish and facilities, and yes a price to match based on the size of accommodation. So an owner can very easily clean a high end property but probably not a 6 bed 6 bath one.

Bloody hell this is why I like staying in hotels. I have stayed in Airbnbs and holiday lets, keep the place clean and tidy....but I am not bloody stripping the beds or putting the bins out.

Never stripped beds! To be honest until very recently I wouldn’t have been able to get the duvet cover off a duvet due to long term illness!!

They can but why would they want to? Small properties garner innumerable short lets and depending on location that may be all year round.

So for eg a 2 bed 1 bath cottage, that’s 4 hours/£80 of cleaning every 3 days (depending on your min stay) potentially all year.

If the property is truly high end - the owner’s got enough money not to bother. Or it’s 2nd home and they live elsewhere. Or they’ve got a career to go to.

What makes you think you'll be asked to strip the beds? I've stayed many times in AirBnBs and never been asked that. Yes, they usually ask you to take the rubbish out, start the dishwasher running, and sometimes put the used towels in the washing machine and start it running. That's really not a hardship and maybe takes 5 minutes.

In return for that you get a full house or apartment with a kitchen, living room, often a dining room, separate bedrooms for the kids, sometimes a garden.

But apparently you would prefer being stuck in one room on holiday.

Stripping beds became a thing during Covid, but it's not expected by most airbnb owners now.
We request the dishwasher be loaded and left running; I'd rather that and unload dishes I know are clean than be peering through the cupboards and have greasy dishes where people have felt rushed to get the dishes washed and out the door. I know I have arrived at Airbnbs to find less than squeaky clean crockery, then notice they want you out by ten on checkout day and the dishwasher fully emptied before you go. Unfair request from other owners in my opinion.

I do have one memory of being asked to strip the beds. Come to think of it, it might have been during Covid. I thought it was just that one place at the time. It wasn't a big deal anyway. Much easier than making a bed!

I have never been requested to run the dishwasher completely and unload it before checking out. That would be madness! They always just ask for you to start it running. Just like they often ask you to put your used towels in the washing machine and start it going, rather than wash, dry and put them away.

I have absolutely no issue with doing both of these things. It literally takes 5 minutes. and I understand that this will mean the cleaners can get in and out quicker later.
