What on earth is this place on the Isle of Wight...?

This is driving me mad. I am currently on holiday on the Isle of Wight and yesterday as I was scrolling through facebook prior to going to sleep, a targeted ad popped up, informing me about a particular shop / thing/ place on the island. I was very excited because it is a company/ brand/ thing I like very much but either didn't realise was a shop or only thought of as an online brand or something, and thought 'wonderful, must go there over the next day or two'. Then fell asleep.

Unfortunately, I now cannot for the life of me remember what this place was! Or even the vague details like 'clothing', 'toys', 'crafts'. I feel like I'm going barmy, and starting to wonder if it was actually just a dream...

I know this is a very long shot but does anyone have any ideas?! Googling 'weird shops isle of wight' has strangely not helped 😂.

As an aside, Mermaid Gin and the garlic farm are definitely worth a visit!

The poo museum 💩 😂 it’s a real thing!! Rubbish though

menopausalmare · 29/07/2026 17:56

We're also holidaying in Isle of Wight. Mermaid gin was also my first thought. Any other clues?

God, no one would want to go there

Well, obviously some people do, or it wouldn't be there would it?
What's with the dramatic overreaction?

TheDandyLion · 29/07/2026 19:23

Not Blackgang Chine, I presume.

swapsicles · 29/07/2026 19:23

Oasis comes to mind, it sells lots of homewares a lot of it unique, it's between Ryde and Sandown, otherwise Shanklin chine but doesn't quite fit the description, amazing though.

likelysuspect · 29/07/2026 19:25

This happens to me all the time.

principalskinna · 29/07/2026 19:40

If you think that's dramatic, then you haven't lived

Bananacrepewithnuts · 29/07/2026 19:46

Mermaid Gin.
Yes please
😀

I am too embarrassed to tell DH that I want to go to the IoW to visit the garlic farm. A good cover story is needed.

Mousespoons · 29/07/2026 19:55

There’s a funny shopping village thing at the needles where you can fill a bottle with coloured sand

could it be dinosaur/fossil related?

Favouritefruits · 29/07/2026 19:58

When I was about 8 I told my brother about this new sweetie shop that had opened down the road, we went to go check it out and it wasn’t there! I must of dreamt it up, do you think you’ve done the same???😂

I would.

MinnieCoops · 29/07/2026 20:01

Jurassic Jim’s.

Myoldbear · 29/07/2026 20:15

You could Google Unusual Shops on the Isle of Wight, and it comes up with a list.

Also maybe visiting Quarr Abbey is fairly unusual, it's the only other thing I can think of which hasn't been mentioned.

roshi42 · 29/07/2026 20:17

There’s a lovely crab shack on a cove you walk down to from Ventnor botanical gardens

emmadoher · 29/07/2026 20:50

Isle of Wight Tomatoes?

Bjorkdidit · 29/07/2026 21:21

Might not even have been real. I got really excited about a FB advert for a Pixar film about Sphinx cats. Turns out it was AI nonsense and there's no such film.

It knows you like the thing and it knows you're on the IoW, therefore it makes up something that doesn't exist to keep you engaged.

Toastie7 · 29/07/2026 21:31

Made me think of Oasis too. Sadly not dog friendly so we haven't been there, but been past it lots. Another place is the gift shop at the top of Godshill car park, it had lots of interesting things last time we went there.

Blingismything · 29/07/2026 21:34

Mermaid Gin?

Yes until you find out the garlic is primarily produced overseas!

ThatRatBastard · 29/07/2026 21:48

A zoo. With lions and tigers and bears. Oh my!

The bears were in a dreadful state and are now enjoying more space.
