Would you ask friend for this ticket money?

Shewas · Yesterday 14:45

I'm going to an event on Saturday booked ages ago. Me and friend A and friend B. Tickets were £38, friend A bought them and has the tickets, we all paid him ages ago.

Friend B can no longer go. She's a single mum with a tough life and her ex has announced he'll be on holiday, so she has no childcare. She's gutted not to be able to go, and knows the money is lost/spent. She said if we know of anyone who can use it to feel free to pass it on.

I bumped into a friend from way back I haven't seen in ages and mentioned we were going to this thing. He said he'd have loved to go. I said well actually there's a spare ticket.

That was a few weeks back and TBH I didn't really expect him to come, but he's just messaged saying he will and should he send me the money.

If it were my money, I'd say no, just glad to see it used and expect/hope he'd buy me a drink while we're out.

Friend B isn't expecting any cash, but I know she could use it. Would you ask him to pay (and pass it on, of course.)?

I'm confused, are you thinking of pocketing the money for yourself OP?

If not, then what is the issue with saying 'yes the ticket is £38' and giving the cash to the original owner of it? 🤷‍♀️

Of course not.

I don't know if there is an issue, but friend said she was happy to pass on the ticket for free, I wasn't sure it was appropriate to ask for money on her behalf.

Yes. He offered - say thank you and tell him it's £38.

I don’t think you can turn money down without checking with your friend first at least. As for the one wanting the ticket could you not just explain the situation and ask if he would be happy to pay so your friend isn’t out of pocket. Honestly a couple of honest conversations and you’re sorted!

This is so weird. You didn’t know if it was appropriate? He offered to pay. How is that asking for money on her behalf?

what would definitely it be inappropriate is, as others have said, turning down money on her behalf without asking her.

When did you ask for money?

You said he offered?

This is confusing.

Yes

LIZS · Yesterday 16:13

He is expecting to pay, why would you make your hard up friend lose out?

PashaMinaMio · Yesterday 16:14

NigellaAwesome · Yesterday 14:55

Yes, if payment has been offered I would accept on your friend’s behalf

Absolutely yes!
Just do it.

Kokonimater · Yesterday 16:23

Of course!
what’s the issue here??

TheOccupier · Yesterday 16:34

Is the event sold out? Ask him for face value £38 if it is, and a bit less if not. Your poor friend shouldn't be out of pocket as well as missing the concert!

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 17:02

This is mad. He offered to pay and from what you've said, she could do with the money more than him, so tell him it's £38 and send your bank details or your friend's or whatever's easiest.

This is not a situation where it's polite to offer, but also polite to decline, not that that makes any sense usually anyway.

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 17:03

I would, £38 is a lot to lose for a single income family, especially now. It would be a nice surprise for your friend to get it (or at least some of it) back.

Fiendishandfiery · Yesterday 17:06

Of course you say yes. It’s your friends ticket you don’t give it away for free when she needs tne money. How can you not see that

Fiendishandfiery · Yesterday 17:06

To make it softer say it’s my mates ticket, she does need the cash, I’d not expect it myself, it was 38 quid.

LilacMeadows123 · Yesterday 17:07

Of course take the money and give it back to your friend. I can't understand why you even need to debate this?

I know,it’s like she’s so desperate to have him there she will, screw her mate over.

Were did you get that from?! The mate isnt asking for any money and OP will pass any on that she gets, so it will be a bonus. No screwing around going on!

Vaxtable · Yesterday 17:11

Yes. He’s offered so I would take it and pass it on

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · Yesterday 17:13

He offered, so clearly not expecting it for free so of course you take it and pass it back to your friend. She’s a single mum who could use the money whether she was expecting it or not.

You’re not asking. He has offered to send the money. You’re just saying yes and passing it on.

Drama over nothing.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · Yesterday 17:36

It's friend Bs ticket and she's paid Friend A for it.... so she owns the ticket. Of course he should pay her.

C152 · Yesterday 17:37

Yes. It wouldn't even occur to me not to tell him that the ticket cost £38, which I'd then pass on to Friend B.

Tabarnak · Yesterday 17:49

Look, your struggling friend didn’t want to make you responsible for getting her money back. She was being nice / unassuming.

That doesn’t mean that you should just give away her ticket to someone who actively wants to go and is pro actively offering to pay.

Accept the ££, give it to your friend.

Lilyargin · Yesterday 18:06

Complete non issue. Ofc you take him up on the offer and pass it on to your friend who needs it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
