Whinging child. Curious as to why.

Every single time my neighbours children come out to play, the youngest who is 4, starts whingeing within minutes.
Crying, griping...'it's unfair boo hoo'. Arguing with siblings etc.
I could literally set a clock.

It renders sitting on one side of my house thoroughly unpleasant.

However, they're children, I try to suck it up but my question is why? Why is this child such a complaining, moany thing? Even the siblings seem exasperated.

Surely you know adults who moan about everything too?

christ, some, believe it or not, go into anonymous internet forums to whinge about small children.

She says, complaining and moaning about a kid. Some people are just born moany.

My friend had a child like this. It was quite incredible hearing him whinge for several hours on end. It really did need to be seen to be believed and I honestly think she parented pretty much as everyone else we knew did. He largely grew out of it and her other children weren't like that. It did seem that was just the way he was from about 1.5 years to starting school.

Is the child included in the play?
Heard?
Happy or unwell?
Tired, hungry or lost in the surroundings or ignored
Needs to learn to communicate with appropriate languahe rather than whinge?
I remember prompting a young child to use words instead of spasing out when at my house...at first they didnt like it but it worked.
If they wont try to communicate they had to go home.
I am not into whinging kids who arent mine..so send them home?

Thank you. A sensible, well rounded response other than attacking me.

To the other posters, I do believe I'm allowed to ask why a child would be constantly moany and whingey! As mentioned in my post there are siblings but they've never been like this in all the years I've lived here.
Hence I'm genuinely curious as to why some children are like this. I'd also defy anyone if they lived here from not feeling the same!

Not my child..I merely hear them. Regularly. They seem included, happy, given attention, no specific additional needs....maybe being the last child they feel they get less attention.

It is attention seeking. This is all there is. The reasons can be many. They can be needing you, wanting to be alone, wanting to be the centre of the game, wanting their toys and home for themselves only....

Violinorbanjo · 10/07/2026 22:17

the introverts are the biggest whiners. They just want to be left alone and in peace.
