Ways to reduce dehumidifier running costs in an older damp house, shocked at costs

I live in a wet place. Even in summer time it can rain a lot. I live in an older house that's not insulated. I have a descciant dehumidifer. They can be more expensive to run.

Over the winter it was 26 euro a month to run. I like sleeping with it on at night in my room.

In the spring, the app I have showed a reduction in use and only really having it on at night time really and less time for laundry because I was drying outside when the weather allowed it.

I am just after checking my app and it shows nearly 8 pounds of usage for July and it's only day number 10 so far.

Going by this rate, It will cost about 27 euro to run for the month.

I have a humidity sensors in my room and I like to keep my room at about 60%. I don't open the windows often or only for short bursts. Because I noticed when I have the window open humidity rises. Humidity outside is often higher.

I am just shocked at nearly 8 pounds of use for 10 days.

Sometimes I find that the tank gets full overnight when I am asleep and then when I wake in the morning humidity can be high like 68 or 69%. Then I boost the dehumidifier. I wonder if it's that, that's making the machine work harder. Should I try and empty the tank at night every night before I go to sleep so that the machine can run and cycle off and on intended.

Is there any way I can reduce the costs of running the dehumidifer. I was doing well over April and may.

Is there any reason why you can’t insulate
I’m assuming with humidity levels that high you are also single glazed
Again why not double glaze or add secondary glazing

Is the property listed ?

We are listed and can’t do any of the above on our property. We use a dehumidifier in the room with all our books to keep it below 45%
Our costs are far less than yours but I can’t explain why I’m afraid

Do you have a compressor dehumidifer? Compressors are cheaper to run.

I don't own the house and the home owner won't do it.

I have a compressor dehumidifier running 24/7 and it barely makes a blip on my electricity bills. It's the best thing I ever bought although it does sound as though your property is particularly damp.

I like my humidity at 55 so it kicks on and off as required. I have one of the Meaco models. Are you in a position to replace your dehumidifier with a compressor?

I have a meaco desiccant. It made a huge improvement to my room.

I do have a small Amazon compressor but it is so useless. I was considering a compressor dehumidifer for my room.

Conditions in my room has stabislied a lot.

The house can get very cold in the winter time but I think my current dehumidifier helps my room.

I wonder if a compressor dehumidifer by meaco help me now and I could spare the descciant for laundry and for other damper rooms in the house.

I will consider a proper compressor dehumidifer instead of the Amazon one. The one I have from Amazon is about the size of an A5 page approx and it is useless. Would a proper compressor work better?

We switched from the Meaco dessicated to the co.pressor and it made a huge difference, including to the cost

Are you paying a very cheap rent that means you dont want to move to somewhere with insulation and no damp issues?

Where I am there is limited housing options. It's bad. I would move if I could but it's very bad where I am.

I am due to go away next week for work for a week. So after that I will consider a compressor for August. The dessicant will still work but maybe in other rooms.
