Advice on accessible seating for a concert after a broken ankle

I broke my ankle a week ago and am currently in a cast waiting to see if I’ll need surgery. Follow up appointment is on 20 July.

My daughter and I have tickets for The Weeknd on 18 August and I’m desperately hoping I can still go. I’ve been in touch with the accessibility team who say they can’t do anything to change our seats at this stage but to ask on the day but obviously there are no guarantees. The guy I spoke to said I only have 8 steps to get to our seats which are in section 501 level 23 but everything I can find says it’s way more than that!

Has anyone been able to get accessible seating for a concert on the day - any tips? Turn up super early I suppose? If I can’t change seats can anyone confirm that I will only need to negotiate 8 steps to get to them?

We have to travel a fair distance to attend the concert and I’ve paid a lot of money for our hotel which I can cancel up to a couple of days before if my chances of being able to attend are low.

Google says around 25 steps but there will be quite a lot of walking on flat surfaces to get to your seating section. How are you planning to get to the stadium? That's where there's going to be a lot of walking regardless of your seat location.

However, 18th August is over 6 weeks since you did your fracture. Obviously, I don't know the extent of your injury, but a straightforward fracture could be mostly healed after 6 weeks.

I went to a gig at Wembley arena when I was still mostly non weight bearing.

No accessible seats available but they managed to get me into a section with just 2 steps

It turned out to be the section where there were free tickets for Armed forces.
Some of them drunkenly decided I couldn't possibly go back down the 2 steps and insisted on carrying me 😂
It was terrifying 😆

Maybe you'll be lucky and get a drunken, terrifying piggy back too 😁

Different venue but when my son broke his leg, they offered (with me sending proof from hospital) early access. So we could go in with other physically impaired punters half an hour before doors opened. I still had to haul him up the stairs but there was a lot more space to do so. We didn’t get in the way of anyone as the stairs are wide. This was at 02 Kentish Town (T&C in old money).

it all depends on whether you can weight bear or not. If you can at that stage I don’t see a problem, you’ll have got used to using crutches on the stairs.
If you’re not weight bearing then I’d get a note from your doctor saying this, it might help. I’d keep pushing if this is the case.

@Lindy2 - thanks. I was planning on either using a kneeling scooter or wheelchair if I’m still non weight bearing but hopefully if I don’t need surgery I might be well on the way to healing like you say 🤞🏻

@ByWittyGoose - that’s hilarious! I guess it’s still worth turning up as they might be able to sort something out as you found.

I was moved into some AMAZING seats lower down when I went to watch Beyonce at the O2, seven months pregnant. It was a boiling hot day and we were right up in the Gods. It was quite dizzying and tiring with all the stairs. I went to Customer Services on the day and they moved me to block A1 or something, right result 😄

@Endofthetunnel25 - oh wow! Amazing. Assuming that concert would have been sold out too?

Where would you be able to keep your scooter/wheelchair once you’re in your seat? Will they store it somewhere safe for you?

Inastatus · 09/07/2026 14:03

@JulietteHasAGun - yes, they can store it for you apparently.,

Big venues always keep some seats spare incase of emergencies. They won't allocate you a new seat beforehand but if you ask on the day, they should be able to move you.

By then the ankle should be ok. Usually it's six weeks and then you are alright to fully weight bare. You may want stick/crutches for a bit but they recommend fully weight baring if it's healing normally after 6 weeks.
Unless something is quite complex it should be alright.

I was at a concert recently and they moved a couple of people in there who were on crutches etc. They had folding chairs that they put out.
