Hi Im looking for advice, my partners recently broken his leg and ankle in 6 places so he’s currently off work, he works for himself so doesn’t get sick pay 😩 we’re really struggling with money and food (plus bills but they can wait) job centre have got us an appointment at the end of the week for a new claim but haven’t been much help apart from that, does anyone know where we can get a small amount of help from? I haven’t been in this situation before as we’ve always been comfortable plus we’re new to the area, we moved up to wales from down south due to personal issues so I don’t know anyone yet, I’ve googled food banks but I’m wondering if there’s any other support I’m so stressed I’m also due my baby In less than 12 weeks so I’m really hoping my partner will be back on his feet by then as we still have bits to get and I’ll need a lot of help🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t want any pity just advice as I’m not the sharpest tool😂🤡

Has he paid his National Insurance while self employed to enable him to claim New Style Employment and Support Allowance?
What is your appointment at the Jobcentre for, have you claimed UC, has he got a fit note from his GP? What other income do you have and do you pay rent?
Any advice on financial support really depends on your current income and savings.

All of this. How long has he been self employed are you sure he has never taken out any Income protection insurance for times like this. Do you rent or have a mortgage. Do you have any savings at all. Do you work. Do you have other children.

You could contact citizens advice or you can use their benefits calculator online just put all your details in and it will tell you all the benefits you would be able to claim.

With regards to foodbanks etc, someone else posted two days ago and coincidentally they'd moved to Wales too and were struggling, except their baby was already born.

Leaving a link incase there's any useful information on it for you.

Get on your local Facebook or nextdoor pages and ask for info on food banks etc.

Your midwife may be able to help.

What is his line of work? There are lots of benevolent societies (charities) that exist to support people based on their work eg GroceryAid. Turn2Us have a grant finder tool on their website which is worth trying and should help identify relevant grants he / your family might be eligible for: https://grants-search.turn2us.org.uk/

Best of luck and hope he makes a good and speedy recovery!
