Potentially sill question for people who use laundrettes

When you finish a hot wash cycle will you your clothes be cold when you take them out? My sheets and towels are still toasty when my home washing machine finishes a 60 degree wash. The reason ask is because I saw a carpet beetle in my hotel room and I'm trying to prevent bringing them back so I've washed all my holiday clothes in a laundrette on a hot wash but the clothes came out cold...

I use them and assuming it's UK then it's almost certainly a result of the standard launderette set up, which is a cold wash at the end. HTH.

Are you saying you don’t believe that the launderette machine heated up the water as advertised? Why not ask the owner?

Thanks! Yes, it's in the UK. I did feel the door mid-cycle and it was also cold. is that normal??

Maybe it was rinsed with cold water at the end?

Last time I used a launderette the signage said they were all cold washes. This was Speed Queen.

I definitely picked the hot wash!

I use a laundarette machine fairly regularly, even when I choose 60c its not warm to touch, they finish with a cold cycle plus the spinning time

BillieWiper · 05/07/2026 15:39

Industrial or commercial washers used by the public shouldn't get hot to the touch. The laundry inside will be hot washed, then cold washed then spun.

Surely if you use the launderette for items you believe to be infested with pests then others will do the same?

I don't have a tumble dryer at home - it was the only option!

Yes mine finished cold and I selected the 60 too after a holiday.

Elleherd · 06/07/2026 06:55

As pp's have said, commercial machines shouldn't be warm to the touch outside, regardless of what's going on inside.

Ok. I thought the implication was you used a commercial washer as you didn't want pests going through your machine. Sorry wrong end of the stick there.
