Has anyone used gluten free madeleines instead of ladyfingers in tiramisu?

Has anyone used Madeleines in a tiramisu?

I have people coming round and one is celiac. I really want to make tiramisu as the main course is Italian but unless I buy 2 packs of gluten free lady fingers (definitely don't need that many) I'm struggling to find them in smaller quantities. I can l, however buy gluten free Madeleines which I'm thinking could be an ok alternative?

£20 for cake!! Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a Morrison's.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I would make an extra dessert the following week but I'm actually dieting and on wli so I'd rather avoid that! The tiramisu is going to be individual ones so can make myself a mini one!

@BirthdayTrash could you share the recipe so I have options - thank you!

Ha ha fair enough! I’m trying to diet too so wouldn’t do what I suggested.

Schlar gluten free marble cake currently in Morrisons at £3.30 but other places it’s £20 plus!

Fuck off! Where? I've only ever seen it about the 3 quid mark and I only get it as a big treat.(because im a greedy fat twat and can demolish it in a day)

Oh and just make the gf version for everyone. Its one example of not being impacted by being gf.

I do agree with this @Plump82
Make a big one for everybody and fill the dish with GF Madeleines.
Trust me on this, you non-coeliac guests won't be able to tell any difference, meanwhile your one coeliac guest will really, really appreciate. To the point where that person will be really touched that you've created a desert that is inclusive and everyone can all eat it together and enjoy the same dish. Honestly, this will go down really well with your Coeliac guest.

Am I the only person who expected a stampede of purists insisting that only ladyfingers are acceptable? (a bit like the bolognese threads when people suggest adding peppers, spices etc)

i’d definitely be delighted if someone made me home made gf tiramisu even if it did have Madeline’s rather than ladyfingers - usually if you’re gf it’s pavlova or brownie- nice enough but a change is great

I made it with slices of Schar gluten free marble cake and it was divine!

The marble cake is amazing

Oh don't worry it's going to be gluten free for everyone. Makes it easier and no risk either. As is the main. I always ensure full meals are gluten free when they come round.

We're gluten free, We're grateful for anything that's edible!

Just make sure your guests know that it is gluten free. I have an intolerance to both Guar gum and Xanthan gum and have been made ill a couple of times by well meaning hosts.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/07/2026 22:33

Wait, it actually comes in packs of 6 not for the whole cake singly. Blush

my maths isn’t the best but maybe that’s a saving on a 3 quid cake. But does mean you have more to scarf down.

It's me, my husband and his parents so I know all the dietary requirements.
