Botox and breastfeeding

Is there any way that botox can be done when breastfeeding? My practitioner says that she can do it and that I would just need to pump and dump for 48 hours afterwards - is this correct? I know I am being vain but I feel very insecure about my looks post birth and, having stopped botox since I got pregnant, seem to have aged significantly and it is really getting me down.

Sorry OP but you have a beautiful and precious new baby.
Why on earth are you even thinking about Botox?

wishfulthinking25 · 03/07/2026 21:19

There is no way I would risk it. My understanding is there isn’t significant evidence as to whether it causes harm or not but tbh any practitioner who advises they’ll do it when you’re still breastfeeding, I’d be very wary of, are they a medical professional dr, nurse? Or just took a course? Personally, I’d wait until I decided to stop breastfeeding.

If Botox is so important, then just stop breastfeeding! Why take the risk!

@AnonymityAnonymitybecause I can be grateful for, and totally love, my baby but also want to recognise myself in the mirror again?

@wishfulthinking25yeah I think you're right. It was me who was wishful thinking!

@Feastsbabyi dont think it's that important, I was just hoping to have the best of both worlds.

Is there anything else I can do to stop my wrinkles looking so bad in the meantime?

Go really careful, Botox is actually a toxin (highly diluted) but can cause terrible illness if it gets into the wrong places incorrectly. Don't do it.

Sorry but why do you need Botox to recognise yourself in the mirror?
And why would you put your baby at risk by pumping poisons in to your body ?

Feastsbaby · 03/07/2026 22:59

I don’t think you will look as bad as you think! But you probably think I’m being flippant. But I’m not.
I know it’s easy for me to say but just enjoy your baby. Make sure you take care of yourself, put yourself first sometimes at least once a day.

I had Botox done by a dr when I was Bf and was told k didn’t need to pump and dump because it dosent go into the milk. You loose so much of yourself when you’re pregnant and bf I completely get why you’d want to

Ffs sorry why has it sent so many times!

I don’t recognise myself when I had a small baby either - I was haggard from sleep deprivation and not eating particularly well, and breastfeeding makes it hard to stay hydrated. Once the worst of the night time waking was over, my looks improved again.

You probably don’t need Botox as much as you need sleep and a break from being responsible for a tiny human 24/7. Hang in there if you can, because you won’t recognise yourself in 12 months, but in a good way.
