Any experience of concussion?

I have mild concussion after being hit on the head at a sporting event last weekend
Attended ED so properly checked out and diagnosed
Have been dizzy and headaches. Some brain fog but was improving. Am trying work today. I am able to set my own schedule so can have plenty of rests
I had lunch with a friend yesterday and had a small glass of wine which I think was a mistake. I didn't sleep well
Can anyone share their experience and recovery?

We got told that there is no such thing as a "mild" concussion when DS was knocked out playing rugby. All concussion can have serious and long term consequences. I think it's imperative that you take time to rest properly and let yourself heal fully.
Are you even ok to drive to work?

If you have concussion you should be taking at least two weeks to rest (been there, done that) - no driving, no alcohol, no physical activity beyond walking.

Look up the Rugby protocol on concussion recovery - my DS was told no sport for 3 weeks and preferably no screens either. Agree it’s not “mild” - they take it very seriously. Definitely no drink!

When I had concussion it was same advice as on here, rest up, no screens (or few) no alcohol. Keep an eye on it in case it worsens.

Yes I've had about 5 concussions now - more than one concussion in a year is particuarly concerning so hopefully this won't happen.

Feeling sick is a huge red flag as is feeling drowsy. You shouldn't do any activities or sports for several days particuarly contact sports but this is dependant on severity. You may feel much tireder than normal, when I had a big concussion and was repeating the same sentence on loop and very combative towards the consultant I had weeks off work and a four month ban on riding the horse. I was constantly exhausted and I was in my mid 20's.

I am particularly concerned as I have an increased likelihood of dementia (28%) due to my concussion history although this won't be the case with you.

Another red flag is sudden bang you can hear followed by a crippling headache which is always an A&E emergency attendance.

I hope I haven't scared you too much but its important to know the signs. I'm sure you will be okay, get well soon.

Well I have committed to work now but can start from home
I won't have another drink and will rest. Can't avoid the screen but am not on laptop all day as its not an office type job
Thanks for the advice
I was due back at work on tues so I have taken days off. The hospital Dr didn't seem to think work was an issue. Just said limit screen time

I had really bad brain fog as you called it for about a month. The thing is, I've been diagnosed with concussion before and NEVER had the symptoms that I had recently. I think this is the first time I really had it and the others were just precautionary.

Munchyseeds2 · 03/07/2026 09:28

It takes far longer to recover than you think
GP said I had classic mild concussion and felt drunk

I went back to work after 2 weeks, would still get random dizzy spells.
I banged my head early Sept 22 and can remember bending down to get something in Dec 22 and going really dizzy
The dizzy feeling I got rolling over in bed has only recently stopped
I never want to bang my head again!

Hope you feel better soon

I had concussion after a car crash in 2022. I didn't really take it seriously and started back at work too quickly rather than resting, and I ended up being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome which was absolutely awful. It took about 18 months for me to feel completely better
