Anyone from Guildford/surrounding villages? Advice!

Hello,

we are planning a move to Guildford over the next year. My children are going to GHS and RGS so we are looking at either moving to a house that is walking distance to these schools (less than 1 mile ideally) OR a surrounding Guildford area that is an easy commute to these schools for our children to commute in. We are thinking somewhere either on a bus route OR train that would stop at London road (eg Clandon).

we don’t know the area that well so for anybody who does know the area what do you think you would recommend in our situation?

TIA!

Do you have an idea of budget?

I went to GHS and so many girls got the train (as did RGS boys) so I wouldn’t worry about living a little further out.

Borracha, as far as you know, what had been the furthest place your schoolmates even lived? Anyone needed one-hour transport (e.g. using train and bus). Thank you!

You will certainly find plenty of students on a train that goes via Effingham Junction. So Oxshott, Cobham, EJ, Horsley, (on the Cobham line) Bookham, Leatherhead, EJ (on the Epsom line). Plenty in your price range in those areas, you’ll get more for your money in some rather than others.
RGS /GHS are schools plenty come from outside Guildford. Think Godalming, Woking, Chobam, Chiddingfold etc. (though they would be into Guildford Mainline station I think).

There are plenty of kids coming into Guildford mainline and either walking up the hill or hopping on a connecting train to London Road (there’s a very conveniently timed one and you literally walk across the platform)

Plenty of kids go in on the train (or by car or bus) from Woking, Worplesdon, Brookwood, Send, Ripley, Clandon etc. Godalming, Farnham, Haslemere were other places some friends lived. As well as Guildford itself.

Thank you! All helpful information.

interested to hear whether you would choose centre of Guildford or just outside?

Thanks!

It depends if you want big town living or a more villagey location. Central guildford will give everyone walking distance access to an easy mainline to london, high street, shopping centre, big leisure centre etc. The villages up and down the train lines vary from very villagey to small town vibes. Personally when my kids were secondary school age bigger was better.
