Loved listening to Shearer lambasting them at half time. They were abysmal and would be entirely fucked without Harry Kane. It’s a shame the whole team falls apart without one player. Rashford was also dreadful, I don’t know why Saka isn’t starting more.

He’s not 100% fit because he’s still rehabbing an Achilles.

Ah fair, I didn’t know! He’s world class and I feel the game always turns around once he comes on.

DRC were quite poor in tactics.

After scoring the goal they should have gone to a block like Ghana and held out for the 1-0. Instead they tried to play it out. They were unlucky with a couple of misses, but then so were England.

I thought England were OK up front and in the middle but do have a problem with the defence they need to fix. Rashford was poor up front, not much passing, poor control and not on target. Gordon was lot better and assisted both of the goals. Bellingham needs to watch himself, he is too good a player to risk having him sent off.

Vs Mexico we are playing them at the Azteca (home stadium) so it will be full of their highly partisan fans - effectively an away match. It's at altitude - Mexico have been playing there for some games. We have little to no altitude training. Mexico are I think about 10 in the FIFA rankings and are on the up.

So I don't think we will go past Mexico. Personally I don't think games should be played at that altitude and it wouldn't surprise me if there were some medical issues as a result of it. These are top athletes often pushing themselves to the absolute limit.

I really want a country like DR Congo to win. They played really well IMO and I really love an "under dog" to win. A country that perhaps doesn't have all the money in the world to spend on their players but a true love for it.

Why? Don’t your like your country to want opposite team to win? I am assuming you are from England.

Some English “fans” are always the same, just basking in delight of England losing. Bore off !

Of course games have been played at those sort of elevations many times over the years and TBF cyclists, runners etc manage up there and higher but the elevation sure as heck gives Mexico a massive home advantage, especially if their players are still, or are currently acclimatised.

Given Mexico were always likely to be in the mix at this stage of the competion IMO it's a bad venue...but FIFA I guess.

Hopefully the England team are moving to altitude somewhere PDQ, but I can see Mexico trying to run the lungs out of them right from the start of the match....we might have to excuse a slow plodding England performance and keep fingers crossed that it works.

Can't say I would take any delight what's so ever in my home country winning.
However, a team that turns up tries their best should win. England was shit imo.
Irrelevant of whether that's my home team or not.

I don’t see this attitude in any other country.

Well the team that lost didn’t play that amazing or else they wouldn’t lose.

HaroldMeaker · 02/07/2026 11:47

I don’t think Kane should have got the penalty. Neither should the Senegal penalty in the other game.

It was a regular England match imo. Scrappy and hard, nail biting and saved by a couple of outstanding centre forwards. Look forward to more of the same in Mexico 😀

I mean, if your wish is simply that a team who turns up and tries its best wins, then you should be pleased.
A team who wasn’t trying wouldn’t have clawed their way back from 1-0 behind.

I agree.
But when it comes to England the poor attitude isn’t just coming from England fans. There are also plenty of miserable English non football fans who can’t stop themselves from whinging about “over payed men kicking a bag of air around”
And also, sadly, you have to take into account that there are more than enough non English people who seek out any opportunity to put down anything remotely related to England/English people.
