Will a robot vacuum hoover up small toys?!

Both of my young DC have lots of little plastic bits from Barbie houses etc. Would a robot hoover accidentally hoover these up if they were left out?!

Yes of course. It’s a vaccumn cleaner, designed to hoover up small pieces

Its a great incentive for kids to not leave small
stuff out as otherwise they have to dig through the storage box to pick up

Yes and earrings my tapestry needles husband's ear plugs kibble the dogs leave under the sofa as well as Lego bits of Barbie's Dream house but nevertheless I love Derek and will never be parted from him

Small pieces yes it will. Medium sized toys like a whole Barbie it will probably just run over then beach itself on and sit bleeping pathetically until rescued, which will be more annoying in a way as the whole idea is you leave it to run while you're off doing something else. I think the robots work best in reasonably clear and tidy spaces - if there's particular areas like a playroom or similar which are always going to have lots of mess you could just block it off from entering those area?

Ime no. I own a few eufys and they just about manage dust and dog hair (which is what I bought them for). Anything remotely bigger gets jammed so I have to do a complete sweep of the floor anyway before letting them loose. Also if something did get sucked up, the compartment you empty is tiny and everything can be very easily retrieved

It would be a pretty shit vacuum if it didn't!

pambeesleyhalpert · 01/07/2026 16:10

Yes! And bigger things! I’ve got a Roomba and it’s useless at going around stuff- big stuff not little bits

Teenytinydot · 01/07/2026 16:16

We just got one and my god it’s the best buy I have EVER made!

Ours is a cheapie so doesn’t have object avoidance. But that makes us tidy up each night so it’s a good thing.

You can also set zones. So I am obviously not letting it run the play run Willy nilly.

Based on our shark, yes, it will. Basically we clear the floor area first, to let it run properly. It still whinges when it gets indigestion from scoffing a dog biscuit, and I have to massage its insides.

That's when it works obviously. Sometimes it just demands a Password when I want to run it, like some kind of children's adventure story. I'm stood next to my vacuum cleaner, I own it, it's in my house. But I must produce a password, apparently, because it has a shit app.

No, I am not entirely certain it saves me any time.
