What shall I get for DS teacher?

That time of year again! My DS is leaving his current school this year - he's Year 2 - and he's had his current teacher for 2 years, she's been absolutely great. I want to get something that feels a bit more special than just an amazon giftcard (am planning to do a giftcard but want something to go alongside). Any suggestions?

As a teacher, the best gift is an email to the headteacher singing her praises 😁

My friend who is a teacher says nothing personalised with your child’s name or photo as it will end up in the staff room kitchen. I once bought a glass vase and put some flowers in it that could be taken home or kept at school in the classroom. My DC did a handwritten note that was tied around the neck of the vase. It appeared to be much appreciated.

Voucher for m and s or local restaurant plus heartfelt card from your child
a nice pair of earrings
a good book and a bottle of wine

a personalised well done stamp eg miss xyz says well done
personalised giant canvas bag for her to carry books in, you could link it to your child’s favourite memories of their one with her or any catch phrases she’s said to the class, or just Mrs xyz’s teacher bag

A home made card from DS and a letter of appreciation from you. Teachers really don’t want anything else unless you know the teacher has a special interest. My son sometimes gets gifts to do with his hobby. He ended up with a drawer full of store vouchers which he sold to his teenagers.

I often give nice food for a night in plus a charity shop dvd
eg a nice cheese, posh crackers and posh chilli jam/posh pesto and pasta / popcorn mandms and pretzels to put in a bowl together

As a teacher I would rather a hand made card or note from the child than a present but if you really want to give something then something your son has made or helped to make. I once got a personalised bookmark which I still use all these years later.

This!

An email to the head is really, deeply appreciated.

If you must get something, get a generic voucher. Nothing that imposes your personal taste (books, wine, jewellery, food, smellies etc.) and takes up space at home.

This, without a doubt.
Nothing hand made by the child unless just a card.

These are what you remember and appreciate. Time, thought and some input from your DS will mean much more than you spending a fair bit of money.

I still have a little note from a girl who will be well into her 40s by now, telling me what a great teacher she thought I was. Such a perceptive child; I hope she's done well in life😅
