Will Ryanair cover accommodation after my daughter's flight cancellation in France?

My 18 year old daughter is currently stuck at an airport in France as her flight was cancelled whilst she was there. She has been rerouted but the new flight is not untill Tuesday. The airline is RyanAir. Will they pay for accomodation for her and if so do we need to book this or will they sort it? She is by herself as her friends have opted to pay £700 for new flights so she is understandably a bit overwhelmed and scared.

Any advice from anyone who has experienced this is much appreciated please.

Cryanair? Good luck with that...

Once flew with them out of "Brussels" - was halfway to France, had to catch a train. Had my child with me too.

Just another capitalist entrerprise who don't give a shit about customer service.

They should, but she'll have to book it and make a claim after. She may also be able to apply for compensation for the cancelled flight on top of reimbursement.

Can’t believe her friends fucked off and left her! 😳

Their parents have a spare £700. We don't. They wanted to be back for tomorrow but she does not need to be. I feel bad that she is by herself but I also don't want to spend that money for no real reason.

Advice seems to be conflicting on this one. AI and Ryanair website says not to book anything until you have spoken to them. Of course there's noone available to actually speak to.

You should be able to claim back the cost of the replacement flight if that helps? Though £700 is a crazy price for a flight from France!?

On the app you have the ability to refund or reroute. The re-route option is for Tuesday. If you cancel and refund that's voluntary and we'd get £25 back.

Can your daughter speak French?

If so, it might be an idea to get a train to Paris Gare du Nord and come back via Eurostar.

There is no availability on that either.

She's at Paris Beauvais and speaks a little french but not a lot.

has she asked the Ryanair staff what they suggest?

Usually airlines have an allocated number of hotel/rooms available. After those have been claimed, they may suggest booking her own accommodation and info on how to claim back.

Or at least this is what has happened to me the two times my flight has been cancelled!

PinkJ · 28/06/2026 03:40

Does it depend on the reason the flight is cancelled? Something beyond RAs control eg. weather and they may not have to cover any costs incurred by your daughter??

She's currently waiting in a queue. Hoping that will be the case

I think they have a duty of care no matter what but they don't pay "compensation" for those types of events. I'm hoping that I've understood correctly

There is a train from Paris Gard du Nord at 3.55.pm on 29th June, but the price is £355. Then she has to get to Paris to catch that train.

It looks like she is "as bad burnt as scalded" as they say.

I'm afraid I have no more ideas as I don't fly and travel on the continent by train. I also speak French and Spanish, which helps.

AurielleBaies · 28/06/2026 03:45

Also, they may give out food vouchers. I can’t remember how I used mine but it was up to £20 per meal or something.

Thank you. We'd seen that. She doesn't need to get back for anything so we're as well to wait it out until the rescheduled flight. It's more about her having accommodation and food.

Can she claim anything on her travel insurance?

I think we need to speak to the airline first. We had a very similar situation in January (she is very unlucky when it comes to transport) and ended up massively out of pocket but it wasn't covered on insurance as we'd opted to cancel the booking (at the recommendation of the provider). I'm very wary of going down that route to start.

No, wait a minute.

She's made it to the front of the queue and they're putting her on a flight to Liverpool via Cork. She'll be home today

Easyjet did.
Our flight was cancelled Friday with no plane until Sunday and they coughed for the hotel ( expensive one but that’s all there was in our town) and food.

She’ll be fine. Annoying about her friends but you are right she can just wait it out. Keep the receipts for everything.

peepsypops · 28/06/2026 05:38

They do have a responsibility to cover “reasonable expenses” until they can reroute you home. You may also be eligible for EU261 depending on the reason why it was cancelled.

In the event of lengthy delays without cancellation they have to offer refreshment vouchers as per legislation and they do.

A lot of Ryanair bashing on MN but to be fair, they often follow the rules more than most and have an incredible safety record. Their app works perfectly and once you know you have to adhere to check in times/luggage rules it’s absolutely fine. Their pilots are well paid and well trained. Their cabin crew are usually at the start of their career before they move elsewhere but again are well trained. I work in this industry and often have to liaise with Ryanair so I know this to be fact.

Some people don’t like them because they don’t educate themselves on the difference between Brussels and Charleroi, or they think the rules don’t apply to them. That doesn’t work.
