2,2,3 with a 2 year old?

I'm just looking for advice for anyone who has separated/ joint custody with a young child.

The proposed schedule for our 2 year old is 2,2,3.. it just seems like a long stretch for her to be without each parent at a time (3 nights and days) it means that the alternate week I'm only with her 2 nights out of 7...

She has a good relationship with both of us but just seems like a long time.??

Thanking you in advance.

It sounds fine to me. The previous week you’ll have been with DC 5/7. They’re never more than 3 days without you

What's the alternative, that she swaps every 2 days? I actually think it's too many changes and likely to be very unsettling for such a young child who can't really be told about their schedule in detail.

Ok thankyou.. 3 days and night just seems like such a long time to have no contact - rather than sharing the weekend ...

That’s quite young for that schedule, has this been court ordered or advised?

I’d argue until they are 4/5 years old (when in the school routine) then whoever's been the primary parent up until this point needs to remain so.

The 2/2/3 schedule in infants/toddlers can disrupt their developing sense of stability, frequently causing emotional dysregulation, sleep disruptions, and severe transition anxiety.

That’s sounds absolutely disruptive for the child, three must be a better way?

Needadvice02 · 27/06/2026 22:45

It's been advised.. apparently 2,2,3 is generally considered a mainstream, developmentally appropriate shared-care schedule for his age

do you not think the other parent would equally find 3 days, 3 nights without seeing their child difficult?
personally 7 on 7 off seems better for stability.

I do week on week off with my kids dad. It was hard at first but you get used to it so do they
