What is noise like living in a ground floor flat?

I'm soon going to be moving into the flat directly below mine! Been told by both my doctor and an occupational therapist I need to be in a ground floor property.

I have only ever lived in either a detached house (with my ex) and first floor flats.

People keep telling me the noise is going to be unbearable but I have nothing to base it on because I have never been in a ground floor hearing noises from above.

Not sure if this makes things better or worse but it's a concrete floor and anything above ground floor has to have carpets.

Anyone who has lived or does live in a ground floor flat, is the noise any worse than thing things I hear? I can hear phones ringing, them talking, if they drop something on their wooden floor, front door opening etc and have come to just expect that in a flat so not sure it would bother me?

So I moved to a ground floor maisonette with a one bed flat above, mines a 3 bed, I thought great! it will only ever be couples or a single person well how wrong could I be, every single occupant has been families, one family consisted of 2 adults and 3 kids! Now it’s a couple and an extremely noisy toddler. I wont lie the noise is driving me insane and makes me depressed. So it really depends who you get living up there, this current family seem to think it’s ok to let their toddler jump constantly, scream constantly, throw things, ride car toys back and forth (they have laminate throughout) stay up till 11pm. 😓

I mean, you won't hear the rain any more!

It would depend on the building, if there’s carpets or not and what the people are like above you. If my kids were above you the noise would be horrendous.

It depends on the building. I have been on the ground floor in an old building, and it was fine.
I have also been in a new build one and you could hear the neighbour upstairs fart.

Old building, but wooden floors / rugs. It totally depends on the neighbours. Elderly lady living alone - not a peep. Large Jewish family with lots of visitors - party time every Friday and holidays till God knows when in the morning 🙄.

My sister lived in a ground floor flat the only noise she heard was when they were hoovering. Not the noise of the hoover but the sound of it being pushed backwards and forwards.

Depends on the building's location, the flat's location within the building and who your neighbours are. I am on the ground floor, I have many windows and live next to a marina so I hear boats when I leave the windows open - which is mostly a nice sound! I only have one neighbour because I am the corner flat and I never hear a peep from them or from my neighbour above. It really depends.

I am delighted to tell you that it depends on who's living above you!

It honestly depends on who is living upstairs I'm afraid. I'm in a ground floor maisonette. Currently a lovely quiet young couple who don't make any noise at all. Previously a young family with a toddler who had screaming fits and cried day and night, adults who stamped around and even chased their child around laughing and running. That stressed me out so much.

It depends on your upstairs neighbour.

we lived in a gff for 30 years. Our upstairs neighbour was quiet, no kids.

we did hear everyday noise like his washing machine, tv, loo flushing, hoovering etc but that to me is ‘normal’ noise and it wasn’t an issue.

obviously late night music, parties etc are a different kettle of fish.

he didn’t have kids or pets. If he did I think it’s normal and to be expected to have some noise and a dog barking, baby crying or children playing, as long as it’s not constant or excessive comes in as normal everyday life and wouldn’t bother me (or certainly not enough to complain even if I was annoyed by it!)
