Coverless duvet SOAKING after washing!

I've wanted a coverless duvet for years to avoid the dreaded job of replacing the cover so treated myself to a fancy one after a £100 lottery win. I've read many romantic stories of just popping it over the bannister to dry after washing. So after the first wash it was absolutely saturated! So spun it again. And again, still soaking, so put it in the dryer for a bit until bedtime. Just went to hang it over the banister and it pissed water all over the house! Was like a benny hill sketch us trying to get it out of the house into the garden 😆🙈 DP found it hilarious and says I've been had 😆

Help!

I didn’t like ours. They were never as fluffy after washing. I’ve gone back to annoying covers.

Aww what shame. I thought I'd cracked it!

We have a few but the washing problem is probably down to the machine, our washing machine sometimes doesn't spin properly with only one or two things in. Usually it's towels.

If you spin it again, add a few extra things and/or adjust it a bit during the spin.

Or check the filter. This happened to me recently and I found a lollipop stick in there and about £3 in change

Put a dry bath towel in the machine with it and spin it again.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/06/2026 22:41

Surely in this weather it’ll be dry in an hour!

What a nice find (the money not the lolly stick!).

mine pretty much comes out the machine nearly dry! I’d agree your machine isn’t spinning properly.

Thanks all! Will definitely try the towel method 👍

I occasionally have to wash DS's single (normal not coverless) duvet which fits fine in my machine but gets so saturated in the wash that it gets too heavy for the spin to get up to speed properly and I have to hang it, soaking, outside till it dries enough to go in the dryer.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/06/2026 08:37

As PP said above, it’s probably too heavy for your washing machine to spin.
If you leave it to drip on a chair in the garden or into the bathtub it will be dry enough to spin after 5-6 hours.
Don’t skip a spin cycle because it could become musty from trapped damp.
Then dry in full sunlight for antibacterial effects.

Chuffed with our Dunelm ones, spun really well, no issues.

I have a Coverless duvet. Mine is the thinnest one going - 4 tog I think - because I'm always hot (thanks menopause!) I spin it twice and it comes out barely damp and dries in no time. Even that has been given the shove in the current weather and I'm making do with just a sheet over me.
