Does anyone else get daily scam calls from o2?!? How to stop them?

Every single day, I get at least two scam calls from “02”! It’s never from a withheld number, always a different mobile, so I do answer it in case it’s something important.

Does anyone know how to stop this? It’s so annoying!

I don't answer calls where I don't recognise the number. I will listen if a voicemail is left but spam calls don't tend to.

I was getting these. Not had one for a bit actually. I used to hang up straightaway and then block the number but they’d ring from another number. I reported to o2 but they’re not actually even from o2. Just keep hanging up and blocking

ToadRage · 25/06/2026 22:15

Just don't answer, if it's important they will leave a message.

mixingplaydoh · 25/06/2026 22:30

I was thinking same. So annoying! Why can’t O2 get a handle on it…

HotHotHotHotNot · 25/06/2026 23:30

To be fair, it’s nothing to do with 02. They’re just being used as the rod.

It actually angers me that the phone - an amazing tool for speaking to anybody, anywhere - has been so repeatedly abused by scammers and spammers throughout the world that they've completely destroyed its practical utility for us all, unless we already happen to have any caller in our contact list.

As well as invading my privacy and distracting me from whatever I'm in the middle of, exploiting something for which I pay for MY convenience, a ringing phone is no longer a positive thing, as the assumption will be that it's a thief or other timewaster.

When (landline) phones first became common in private houses, I can remember the little element of excitement when it rang, wondering who it might be - now sadly a dim and distant memory.

It's the same with the TPS - it always seemed a bit annoying that you had to register to opt OUT of irritating calls (as though the default would be that people would welcome them), but at least you could always cheerfully tell any unsolicited callers that they were breaking the law and that you would report their company, and they would sound contrite. That seems such a quaint anachronism now that all the calls come from the other side of the world - and they know full well that they're crooks rather than an otherwise-reputable company that's overstepping; so utterly pointless now.

I got called from a ‘Manchester’ number this morning.
It was - apparently- ‘Sam’ with a very heavy Indian accent,
I sighed and cut off the call.
Ten seconds later it rang again -this time a ‘London ‘ number.
I answered ‘yes’ and was told to “go fuck myself motherfucker” -yes it was ‘Sam’.
I called him a nasty scamming cunt and cut him off.
I’ve had loads of these calls in the past, usually purporting to be from Sky.
But what bothered me about this one was that he knew my name. That’s never happened before. It must be a data breech somewhere but I wish companies that had my data bloody well protected it better.

Answer it with ‘good morning Bristol police station duty sergeant here’

I then got a few more ‘excuse me Madam’ etc and they tried to carry on but I interrupted and said ‘sir what is the nature of your emergency do you need me to dispatch officers to your address etc it happened twice more and then never ever again

Notasunshineinsight · 26/06/2026 01:15

And I also said Sir all our contracts are with the same mobile phone supplier would you like me to get an officer to ring you if you fear a fraud has been committed to you etc etc

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 26/06/2026 05:26

I discovered a call screening option in the iPhone menus. It asks callers who they are if they are not in your contacts. If they don’t answer (the scammers and auto dials don’t) then your phone doesn’t ring. It’s been very peaceful since!

catslovehairties · 26/06/2026 05:47

Stop answering your phone. The more you answer, the more they’ll call you!

MidnightPatrol · 26/06/2026 06:01

I get a lot of these and have been wondering how many people exactly are employed in this kind of scam, and to what extent do they know about what they are doing.
