Best alternative to SkyQ and mini boxes

We've had Sky for donkey's years . Currently got Sky Q and three mini boxes.
I want to move away from it finally as I'm sick of the annual charade of ringing up, speaking to someone for an hour who I can barely understand and coming away with an unsatisfactory deal or not the deal I agreed. Last year had to make a formal complaint and when they listened back to the call they agreed I was given wrong info.

We have decent wifi and obviously a satellite dish. No tv ariel.
I like tc series and news. Not interested in films or sport. I do watch a lot of the channels on sky and like the planner.
I already have Prime and Disney.
I want to be able to watch in three rooms if possible.
What sort of kit do I need? How difficult is it to set up?

We did the same and got rid of sky as it was so expensive. We now pay for netflix, prime, disney +, now tv & apple tv subscriptions and it's still way cheaper than we were paying for sky

If you like sky channels then now tv is worth it, they're always doing offers. We pay £15 a month for entertainment, movies and ultra boost which is ad free and streaming on three devices at once. You can get roku sticks which just plug in and have loads of apps on, I think they're about £20 in argos

I'm interested too. Where I live we have v little TV reception via aerials. What puts me off just streaming is I like to be able to flick between channels, especially the news when something 'big' is happening like an election. I also like the record function on SkyQ.

I've got a Freely box in another room and am just waiting for someone to offer Freely with an easy record function then it's goodbye Sky.

Used the apps on your TVs instead of sky.
If your TVs don't support modern apps then but a stick to plug in. Amazon fire or Roku star the leaders.

If you watch a lot of linear TV then buy a freely TV or stick to get the channel hopping experience.

Freely won't get a record function to record from IP streams. It's designed to watch catch up via the apps,

All smart tvs but as @ForPearlViper says the streaming apps don't facilitate flicking between channels.
I hadn't heard of Freely and just googled. That might suit.

I never watch anything live. I record stuff on the planner and watch when I want. Even things like the 6 oclock news, I watch it an hour later. I presume you can do that on catch up now? It used to be that programmes only appeared a day later.

Yep: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002y359/bbc-news-at-six-24062026
Also the main channels will enable you to 'watch from start' of a programme that is currently playing in Freely or their streaming apps.
