Best way to buy restaurant voucher?

colleague is leaving work and as part of her present, was going to get her a voucher for dinner somewhere as her and her DH love going out trying new places. I don’t want to specify where they go so thought about a Red Letter day voucher. Is that a good company or is there a better way of doing it?

Ask if there's anywhere they want to go they haven't tried then get one for there if they do it. It doesn’t have to be a surprise and it's fine to get for somewhere specific if you know they would like it.

There is a gift card called 'restaurant gift card' that has a selection of places.

But honestly they are just all chains. I personally would rather get a gift voucher for a local good quality restaurant than have a to choose from places like all bar one and wagamama. Don't get me wrong, quite happy with a trip to wagamama but for a gift, something nicer and local would be much more appreciated.

Dont do gift cards.
They are a bind, have time scales and restrictions, and are a hassle (can you tell ive been given gift cards that have cost me money, when I could easily have spent cash elsewhere and got much more stuff).

Give cash, suggest dinner somewhere with it.

Broad spectrum gift cards tend to only work in big chains.

Second this, just give cash. Vouchers are also they're time limited, so pressure to use, and in the current climate, there's a high risk of restaurants going bust, so the money would be lost.

I have called restaurants, left money on tab by credit card and then given a card telling them :) Vouchers are a pita

Just give cash. It’s so much easier and they can pick the restaurant of their choosing.

Thanks, cash is probably the best bet as she goes to lots of independent places rather than chains. I’ve messaged her husband but he doesn’t know where to suggest 🤦🏻‍♀️.
