34° by 11am

Kbcdtyijgd · 24/06/2026 17:18

35, my windows open a crack and the fans just blow hot air around

itsgettingweird · 24/06/2026 17:18

33° at 9am.

then the kids arrived 🤯

SodapopCurtis · 24/06/2026 17:20

39 by 11 without any children in the classroom.

MrsDroughtFire · 24/06/2026 17:21

My dd secondary school had a policy that classrooms over 35 degrees were locked and the class was merged with another class or relocated to a cooler room (since over half the kids didn’t show up and Y11 and Y13 already left there was space).

Lunch was a problem so y7 and y8 were herded into the sports hall with “a million fans” to keep cool.

Dd walked home 40mins in the baking heat. I said she can skip tomorrow if it’s too much for her.

MrsDroughtFire · 24/06/2026 17:22

@SodapopCurtis that is brutal.

TeenToTwenties · 24/06/2026 17:55

And this is why schools need to close in this heat.

Soumd · 24/06/2026 18:12

Schools have got this. 😉

38 and absolutely no meaningful learning occured after approximately 10am. I was not a teacher today I was a babysitter.

Poor child.

MrsMurphyIWish · 24/06/2026 18:19

SLT went round P4 and recorded 43 degrees although West Mids is technically 33. I was accused of lying yesterday.

We are closed tomorrow.

Honestly!

BP can go fuck herself, and then fuck herself some more.

I was “lucky” today as the DC’s schools closed early so I took unpaid leave this afternoon too. DH (also teacher) has come home feeling sick. He runs marathons.

treefern73 · 24/06/2026 18:25

37 degrees in an upstairs classroom with a wall of windows. No learning at all just containment. Spent 6 hours in there today, came home and basically collapsed. The thought of 2 more days of this is terrifying. Management not bothered.

Nursemumma92 · 24/06/2026 18:25

36 in my DD's classroom today with a 32 weeks pregnant teacher. She (the teacher) cried at pick up when I brought her an ice lolly along with my daughter's! Still open tomorrow though apparently.

RareRubyRobin · 24/06/2026 19:29

35 in my classroom. Horrific. Didn’t see
SLT all day - too busy lazing in their dark cool office with windows that actually open fully and multiple fans just for a single
person to give a flying fuck about us plebs melting into a puddle 😡.

Soumd · 24/06/2026 19:43

Children are allowed to be collected at 130 tomorrow or can stay. In reality there should be option not to go in at all.

I tried to do a handwriting intervention last period, my room was over 36 degrees and the poor lad could barely hold the pen as his hands were sweating so much.

What does SLT mean in the school context? I see it used but haven’t been able to figure it out. Note: I’m not originally from the UK.

I'm not at work today as I'm recovering from surgery but I am fortunate enough to have air con in my classroom. It's only the "new" block which has this, the rest of the school is old and full of windows. A colleague says that her room was 38 when she arrived this morning and the students were all lethargic. They moved as many classes as possible into cooler rooms but there's a limit to what they can do in an old school.

fluckityfluckfluck · 24/06/2026 20:29

My SLT were all over it today. Doing their best to keep everyone as comfortable as possible

girlsyearapart · 24/06/2026 20:34

I’ve never sweated so much and I’ve run marathons. Literally rivers pouring down my back. Kids were allowed home at 1 but I still had 18
Been told not to teach anything particularly meaningful so it’s just sweaty babysitting,
awful
