I dont know the answer but its interesting! My guess would be no because its not spitting out heat? When you open an air fryer the heat doesnt feel as intense as opening an oven?

And fuck it what about a microwave?! Im invested and i hope someone smarter tells us the answer

Mine doesn’t

GameOfJones · 23/06/2026 22:20

No. I have a Ninja Dual air fryer and it emits a bit of heat but nowhere near as much as my oven, plus it cooks quicker so it isn't on as long anyway.

youalright · 23/06/2026 22:23

No mine doesn't

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/06/2026 22:26

Mine does! It’s not sealed in the way a proper oven does, so it gets hot to the touch. Radiates heat.

Electric pressure cookers and slow cookers don’t. And induction hobs don’t. I just use the microwave, pressure cooker and hob in this weather.

IcyIce · 23/06/2026 22:27

Mine doesnt

Unescorted · 23/06/2026 22:29

The Ninja Dual gets hot on top.... But a silicone mat has stopped that. I had the oven on today and nearly melted. The air fryer was not the problem.

Moral of that is never ask your family what they want for tea when they are in an air conditioned car.

I have a Philips one. It stays coolish to touch.

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 23/06/2026 23:01

It does get warm to the touch but not in the same way as an oven does.

Bristolandlazy · 23/06/2026 23:03

An air fryer defiantly puts out some heat, ours has slightly melted an electrical socket behind it. It's a small oven.

managingexpectations · 23/06/2026 23:23

Mine get warm but not the same intense heat that comes from an oven. It’s still ok to touch without feeling too hot.
plus it cools down far quicker than my oven so my kitchen doesn’t get quite as hot using the air fryer instead of the oven. my kitchen is like a furnace today though as it’s south facing with no shade do I doubt I’d notice any extra heat from any cooking appliances

Flatandhappy · 23/06/2026 23:25

No. I live in Aus so high temperatures aren’t the major drama they are in the UK. Before I got an air fryer we would usually stick to the BBQ for cooking on really hot days so I love my air fryer as you get the oven effect without a hot kitchen. It is under an open window though.

Elbowpatch · 23/06/2026 23:29

They emit heat in the same way, but they emit less heat.

Air fryers are a much lower wattage than a typical oven and are on for less time.

High temperatures might not cause dramas in Australia but perhaps they should: even in the UK we know heat causes problems in Aus, apart from the terrifying fires. Severe and extreme heatwaves have claimed more lives than any other natural hazard in Australia.
